And then God made a farmer’s wife…❤️

She’s the one who keeps everyone fed, keeps things moving, supports the crazy schedules, and somehow still finds time to make homemade cookies for the people out working. 🍪

We were lucky enough to get these AMAZING homemade cookies, and let’s just say… they didn’t stand a chance! 😂

🦟 West Nile Virus in Horses 🐴

Mosquito season means it’s time to talk about West Nile Virus (WNV)—a serious disease that can affect horses and, in some cases, cause life-threatening neurologic disease.

What should you watch for?

Signs can vary, but may include:
• Fever
• Depression or weakness
• Stumbling or incoordination
• Muscle tremors or twitching
• Difficulty walking or standing
• Head pressing or unusual behavior
• Seizures
• Partial paralysis

Testing:
If a horse develops neurologic signs, we may recommend testing to help determine if West Nile Virus or another disease is responsible. Several conditions can cause similar neurologic signs, so testing can be an important part of figuring out what’s going on.

Treatment:
Unfortunately, there is no specific medication that cures West Nile Virus. Treatment is primarily supportive care and may include fluids, anti-inflammatory medications, nutritional support, and medications to control seizures or other complications. Horses with severe neurologic disease may require intensive nursing care.

The GOOD NEWS: Prevention is available! 💉

Vaccination is one of the best ways to help protect horses against West Nile Virus. Keeping horses on an appropriate vaccination schedule can significantly reduce the risk of severe disease.

We knew the truck was tall… but MAN, is it TALL when you have to jump in and out of it all day! 😂

The motor decided to quit on our automatic steps, so we spent an entire day climbing in and out of the truck the old-fashioned way. Let’s just say our knees were NOT impressed. 😂

We are beyond thankful for High Plains Spa for getting us in after hours and getting us fixed up in no time! 🙌🏼

Our truck is back to being fancy, our steps are working, and most importantly… our knees thank you! 😂❤️

She was NOT interested in cooperating today 😂 I probably shouldn’t laugh because she wasn’t going to hesitate to run any of us over! 😳🐄

Frequently, the cows are bluffing. But this spice lady meant business!

Leave it to the redhead to keep us on our toes! ❤️😂

This little ferret came in for treatment of adrenal disease with a deslorelin implant - a super common condition we see in ferrets.
Signs can include:
Hair loss
Itching
Swollen v***a in females
Trouble urinating in males
Increased odor or aggression

For placement, we keep things low stress and comfortable.
First, we use isoflurane gas anesthesia so he gets sleepy and relaxed. No wrestling matches needed with tiny ferret teeth involved.

Once he's snoozing:
•We shave the area
• Scrub everything sterile
• Place the deslorelin implant just under the skin
• Add a tiny drop of surgical glue over the opening

And that's it! Quick, minimally invasive, and usually these little guys recover FAST.

Deslorelin implants help control hormone production and can make a huge difference in quality of life for ferrets dealing with adrenal disease.

Tiny medicine is still real medicine around here.

This ram came in with a large abscess that needed some attention. We opened it up, drained all that nasty material, and got things cleaned out so this guy could start feeling better! 🐏💪

Abscesses can get BIG before they’re noticed, especially in our livestock patients. Properly opening, draining, and managing them is important to help promote healing and prevent further complications.

Definitely not the prettiest part of veterinary medicine… but someone’s got to do it! 😅🩺

We seriously have the BEST clients. ❤️

We're not sure how we got so lucky to find all of you, but we're thankful every single day. From making sure our truck is stocked with road snacks and drinks to surprising us with these awesome neck fans to help keep us cool through the rest of the summer, your kindness never goes unnoticed.

You all make the long days, hot weather, and miles on the road a whole lot sweeter. We truly appreciate every one of you and are so grateful to be a part of this amazing community.

P.S. We also somehow scored the out-of-season Girl Scout cookie hookup... and we're definitely not complaining! 🍪😄
