If you didn’t know the 50th Pygmy Goat National Convention is coming up in June! It will be in Ohio this year which means I get to make a side trip to see Fiona, the Pygmy hippo!!!! Last time I saw her happened to be 3 years ago today.

I’ll be there all week during Convention so if you happen to be in the area, come by, say hi, and check out some awesome Pygmy goats from all around the country.

2026 National Pygmy Goat Convention will be held in Owensville, Ohio June 18-23. Located East of Cincinnati, Ohio nestled in the hills!

Just a reminder it’s important to get your hands on the kids. OFTEN. They can trick you if not.
I took pictures this morning and everyone looked fine and were acting normal but when I got my hands on them this afternoon, two sounded raspy so I checked their temps. It’s been raining off and on for weeks, before that temps were cool then back to hot, add humidity and voila! A recipe for respiratory issues.
They were treated and will be fine, but the earlier you catch ANY respiratory issues THE BETTER. Not every goat is going to act off when they aren’t feeling well.

In preparation for the Listing of goats coming Monday here are the rules so hopefully I don’t have to say them 1000 times.

1. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE OTHER DWARF GOATS YOU NEED TWO!
Combinations that work together are:
Buck/Buck
Buck/Wether
Wether/Wether
Doe/Doe
Doe/Wether

NO DOES WILL BE LISTED THIS SEASON!!!

IF YOU WANT A PET, YOU DON’T NEED A DOE!!! WETHERS MAKE THE BEST PETS!!!!

A BOTTLE BABY WILL BE WEANED BEFORE LEAVING.

If it was a bottle baby it was because it needed to be, not because we wanted it to be one.

A 3 month kid can be as friendly as a bottle baby kid. It’s the amount of time you spend with each one that makes them friendly.

2. Bucks and Does should NOT be put together year round because Does can get Pregnant twice a year.

DO NOT BREED PYGMY GOATS THINKING THEY ARE EASY KIDDERS. THEY ARE A SMALL BREED GOAT. There is ALWAYS a chance of them needing assistance.

A goat could kid easy 4 times and then bam!

BE PREPARED TO BE A GOAT GYNO!!! It is a steep learning curve and not for the faint of heart.

3. Location is Scott, LA.
You are welcome to come see them if you
CONTACT ME TO ARRANGE A VISIT FIRST.

4. Do not expect a goat to be available 3 weeks from now. The one/ones you want may go quick, they may not.

If you like what you see, jump on that.

Know what you are looking for and get permission from your significant something before Monday.

5. Know your budget.

If you are looking for a “cheap goat” you are not looking for a purebred Pygmy goat, you are looking for a sale barn goat.

The 💰 is the 💰.

If I add up the costs of making them verses what you are getting them for, then you already got a deal.

6. It doesn’t matter if you want a registered goat or not because these goats ARE registered goats. 💰 doesn’t change.

7. Show goats may get priority placing.
For example: If we believe this goat would do well in a show family then we will try to place it with a show family FIRST.

8. There are several Bucklings.

If you would prefer them as a Wether (no dangly bits 🏀🏀✂️✂️) that is a possibility we can discuss.

They will be banded BEFORE they leave the farm.

9. It is our discretion where the goats move on to. I will update the status of each one when their status changes.

10. I don’t know of a transport company that comes through Louisiana.

EXPECT to travel…

45 min, 2 hrs, 2 days…

These are PUREBRED PYGMY GOATS. There aren’t a ton of them available in the US. Travel is usually a requirement to getting your hands on one. I’ve traveled all over the country to get mine.

11. FIND A VET THAT ACCEPTS GOATS BEFORE GETTING A GOAT. An emergency is NOT the time to find one.

Here’s the heads up you’ve been waiting for!

I’ve got to get some decent pictures this weekend (wish me luck on that 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️) and I still have to send off the paperwork for registration.

Monday I’ll start listing the goats that are ready to leave.

Do not expect to see their official NPGA certificates till July or August from Central Office. They will be very busy with Nationals coming up in June.

You will be given a copy of the registration paper, an invoice from me, as well as a bill of sale as proof of purchase.

Those of you who have gotten goats from us before know I am very serious about paperwork and send you home with a packet for each goat.

They have been:
disbudded
microchipped
and banded if they were determined to be a Wether.

Scrapies Tags are provided.
LA Bred tags available upon request to those that apply.

It was a BOY year.

Several of the bucklings could remain a buckling or be wethered so I did not band them in case someone wanted them as a buckling instead.

If you want them as a Wether, I will band them before they leave the farm.

If there are any other notes pertaining to each goat (show, pet, etc) I will include it with that goat’s individual listing on Monday.

It’s a rainy day here but still lots of activities! We had some disbudding and banding to do then we had some Kids Camp Kids visit the farm! All the goats gots lots of love and animal crackers galore!
