Blake, Wren, and Padme are ready for adoption! These three youngsters have a great foundation and are at a perfect age to find their new homes, spend the winter building relationships, and get ready for a fun summer next year!

Blake – 2-year-old BLM Mustang gelding
Blake is an absolute joy to be around! He's well handled, halter broke, leads, loads, ties, and stands nicely for the farrier. He's got a wonderful start and is ready for someone to continue his education.

Wren – Yearling filly
Wren is another delightful youngster who has been a pleasure to work with. Like Blake, she's well handled, knows her basics, and is ready to keep learning!

Padme – Yearling filly
Padme is our little athlete! She's incredibly athletic, smart, and full of potential. She knows all the same basics as Blake and Wren, but can still have her moments and will need a more experienced handler to continue her education.

All three participated in this year's Dakota Showdown, gaining valuable handling and training experience. While they're still too young to ride, there's plenty of groundwork and relationship-building to enjoy as they grow.

We've got quite a few horses in rehabilitation at Gentle Spirit Horses Rescue right now, and our evenings often include a little extra care for those who need it most. Tonight, Prince, Phoenix, Scooter, and Paris each enjoyed a five-minute session with our BEMER blanket as part of their general wellness routines.

Three of these horses — Phoenix, Scooter, and Paris — are relatively recent arrivals who came to us severely underweight. They're now on the long road to recovery, with carefully managed nutrition, regular monitoring, and plenty of individualized attention.

And they're not alone! Porter, Cappi, and Dolce are also currently in our rehabilitation and quarantine area, receiving the care and attention they need as they settle in and begin their own journeys toward better health.

With so many horses needing extra support right now, we're going through a LOT of bedding and specialized feed. While the BEMER blanket is one of the tools we use in our wellness routines, the foundation of rehabilitation is good nutrition, clean and comfortable spaces, veterinary care, and time.

Want to help our rehabilitation horses?

A bag of stall bedding costs approximately $7, while a bag of high-fat feed costs about $32. Those everyday essentials add up quickly when you're caring for multiple horses who need extra attention.

Whether you can sponsor a bag of bedding, a bag of feed, or contribute toward their ongoing care, every donation helps us give these horses what they need.

It's farrier weekend! Our farrier comes once a month and trims about half our herd. Have you considered volunteering but can't commit to a weekly time? Joining the farrier team is a great way to help with just a monthly commitment. If interested in learning more and helping out, we meet at 11:00 a.m. to start catching horses and are usually done by about 5:00 p.m. Just message the page if interested!

Can't volunteer but still want to support the horses? Each trim is $50! Sponsor a single trim or consider setting up a $25 monthly donation for trims here: http://gentlespirithorses.org/donate

The The Homes for Horses Coalition conference has always been one of our favorite events to attend - and what a great honor to be able to speak about getting along even when we disagree! This conference has always had the best balance of presentations including business/governance issues, welfare issues, up and coming programs, and more. Being in a room full of people who all share a passion even if our methods are different is inspiring and uplifting and makes us feel a little less isolated.

How do we wait two years for another conference?? :)

It's beginning to look a lot like Halloween at Gentle Spirit Horses Rescue! The pumpkins and decorations are starting to make their appearances around the farm as we get ready for our annual **Boo at the Barn!**

Join us on Saturday, October 31, from 1–3 p.m. for an afternoon of trick-or-treating with the horses! Bring the kids in their Halloween costumes, enjoy a visit to the farm, and collect treats along the way. We'll have goodies for the kids AND the dogs, so your four-legged family members are welcome to join the fun, too!

Of course, getting the farm ready for Halloween takes some extra hands, and we'd love your help!

We're looking for volunteers and supporters to help make Boo at the Barn a success. Whether you can come out to help decorate and set up the barn, sponsor candy and treats, donate non-food goodies for trick-or-treaters, or help us come up with some creative Halloween costumes for the horses, there's a way for everyone to get involved.

We're especially interested in non-food treats like stickers, pencils, small toys, and other Halloween goodies that kids can enjoy long after the candy is gone.

Volunteers helping with setup should plan to arrive around 9–10 a.m. on October 31. If you'd like to help, please email [email protected] or send us a message here on Facebook.

And if you've got a great horse Halloween costume idea, we'd love to hear it! We're always looking for fun ways to dress up our residents for the occasion.

First Bemer treatment for our new girl, Paris. She is a blind, deaf 25+ year old Saddlebred mare that came to us on Friday from a law enforcement impoundment. She was scheduled to be euthanize at 1pm Friday but we were able to step in and give her a chance.

We love being able to provide therapy like the Bemer PEMF treatments as part of rehab.

We are a distributor, so if looking to add Bemer to your toolbox, let us know. Purchases help our rescue horses.

The future of horse rescue is in good hands!

For this week's South Dakota Gives "Great Places, New Faces" challenge, we're celebrating three young women who have made Gentle Spirit Horses Rescue their second home: **Haily, Arryanna, and Aspen.**

While Haily has been part of the Gentle Spirit family for several years, Arryanna and Aspen are newer additions to our volunteer crew. Together, these three teenagers have become an important part of life at the rescue.

They spend their free time working with horses, helping with farrier appointments, tackling barn chores, and doing whatever needs to be done. They've learned that caring for horses isn't always glamorous, that there's a lot more to rescue than riding, and that sometimes the most important work happens behind the scenes.

But perhaps what we appreciate most is that they've chosen to make Gentle Spirit a second home. They've built relationships with the horses, with each other, and with the people who share their passion.

We talk a lot about the future of horse rescue, and the challenges facing the horse community. But when we look at young people like Haily, Arryanna, and Aspen, we're reminded that the future is also full of possibility.

These are the next generation of horse owners, advocates, volunteers, and perhaps even rescue leaders. They're learning not just how to care for horses, but what it means to show up, take responsibility, and make a difference.

**Thank you, Haily, Arryanna, and Aspen, for sharing your time, your energy, and your hearts with the horses of Gentle Spirit.** We're grateful you're part of our family, and we can't wait to see where your passion takes you.
