Since our post about the petition has generated a vast array of responses, please let us explain.
When the charter was created, the park did not exist, so a lot of what was decided was based on well thought out and researched unknowns. We estimated $10k annually for maintenance. On years when mulch does not have to be replaced, those costs have been significantly less. We expected people to be interested in joining the Board, and volunteering, and donating to the nonprofit. All of these things happened but not to the extent that now, 10 years later, make the continuation of the nonprofit sustainable. Add into that the pandemic, which none of us anticipated, and we went a year and a half with no fundraising at all.
Meanwhile, behind the scenes, Board Member volunteers have put in long hours, secured donations and wrote grants, and often contributed their own money to help pay for expenses because they wanted more funds available for the small dog park project.
It was not our intention at the onset to dissolve the nonprofit and we are sad that it has come to this. But, now that our mission to build the two dog parks is complete, the four remaining board members (including one who has served since its inception despite moving to another town) are ready to move on to other initiatives that they are passionate about. If there are members of the community who would like to take over the reins and keep the nonprofit running, please reach out to us. Otherwise, please show your support by signing the petition. Thank you!❤️🐾
