🎆 The 4th of July is one of the busiest days of the year for lost dogs. 🎆
Fireworks and celebrations are fun for us, but for many dogs they can be downright terrifying. A frightened dog doesn’t think clearly—they run. And when they run, they’re often using more force, speed, and determination than you normally see because they’re desperately trying to find safety.
A little preparation now can prevent a heartbreaking situation later:
🐾 If your pup uses prescription calming medications, contact your veterinarian now. Don’t wait until the last minute.
🐾 If you use CBD or other calming supplements, many protocols suggest starting before the fireworks begin to help achieve the best results.
🐾 Verify that your dog’s microchip information is current, including phone numbers and emergency contacts.
🐾 Inspect collars, harnesses, and leashes for wear, broken buckles, stretched material, or weak clips.
🐾 Check your fence line and gates. Make sure locks are secure and there are no gaps, loose boards, or areas where a panicked dog could squeeze through.
🐾 Hosting a BBQ or gathering? Consider keeping your pup safely inside a quiet bedroom or secure area. Open doors, guests coming and going, and unexpected fireworks create the perfect opportunity for an accidental escape.
The goal isn’t to take the fun out of the holiday—it’s to make sure everyone is still together when the fireworks are over. 💜
