Meet Alaric, your new best friend — part gentle giant, part goofy bestie, and 100% heartthrob. 🐾

At around 9 months old, this Dane/Lab mix is already winning hearts everywhere he goes. He’s the perfect combination of sweet, silly, and lovable — the kind of dog who will make you laugh daily and then melt into your lap like he’s still a tiny puppy.

Hi, I’m Coop! I’m a curious cutie who loves to sit up tall like a meerkat—don’t you think it’s adorable? And have you seen the cool sleeve on my left arm? I think it makes me extra special.

I’m a total gamer when it comes to ball tracks—I love spinning and trapping the balls to show off my skills. My front legs might be a little shorter and bowed, but that doesn’t stop me at all! I jump, play, zoom around, and navigate obstacles just like any other cat. I’ve adapted perfectly—I don’t let anything slow me down.

I’m pretty calm and respectful, too. I play with my foster cat brother, but I give my foster cat sister her space. Dogs don’t bother me either. I might be a little shy at first, but I warm up quickly—usually in just a couple of days.

I’d love to find a forever home with someone who wants a playful, clever, and easygoing companion.

Beautiful Emmylou is at a small, rural shelter that is at capacity and euthanizing for space. Her time is officially up. She hasn't had any serious interest, and we can't rescue her unless she has a foster or foster-to-adopt home to go to. Can you help? If you can't take Emmylou in, please share her post!

1.5-year-old, 45-lb. husky mix Emmylou previously had a home but not with people who cared about her. When they dumped her at the shelter, their reason was that they just didn't want her anymore. They didn't seem to care that there was a good chance she wouldn't make it out. She also had not been given vet care or heartworm prevention, so, no surprise, she has heartworm. (Don't let that scare you off; AHF takes in heartworm positive dogs all the time and we pay for treatment!)

If you're looking for a foster or forever dog who is sweet and on the calm side, please consider Emmylou. She's great with other dogs. She handles meets well, is tolerant, and plays appropriately. Because she's treat motivated (and takes treats nicely), Emmylou should be a breeze to train. She seems eager to please.

Hi, I’m Logan! I may only weigh about 7 pounds, but don’t let my size fool you—I’m bursting with personality and have a heart that’s even bigger than my love for playtime. I’m a spunky little girl with cute white paws, a curious nature, and a serious obsession with toys. Pom poms, spring toys, wand toys—I love them all! My absolute favorite game is fetch. I’ll proudly bring my spring back to you like a tiny retriever and wait for you to throw it again.

When I’m not racing around playing, I enjoy hanging out by the window, watching birds, squirrels, and all the excitement outside. I’m very curious about the world, but I also have a sweet, affectionate side. Belly rubs and chin scratches are my love language, and I’ll happily flop over to show my belly as my special way of saying “welcome home.”

I’m a friendly, social girl who would be happy as your one-and-only or sharing a home with a nice feline friend. I also do well with gentle, respectful kids who understand that even playful cats have a soft, loving heart.

Meet Tazer!

Have you ever wondered what happens when you pack the confidence of a Great Dane into the body of a tiny Chihuahua mix puppy?
Well, meet Tazer.

At just 3 months old, Tazer is convinced he's the boss of everyone and everything. Part puppy, part explorer, part self-appointed manager of everyone else's business." Big dogs? Tiny dogs? Doesn't matter. He'll happily share his opinions with all of them.

This little guy came into rescue at only 3 weeks old with his siblings and mama and has been raised in a foster home ever since. He's grown into a playful, adventurous puppy who loves exploring outside, wrestling with his dog friends, and finding new ways to keep everyone entertained.

Tazer is doing awesome with potty training and is a smart little guy who learns quickly. He loves other dogs, but would do best with one who can gently remind him that being 8 inches tall doesn't automatically make him CEO.

Because he's a tiny pup with a big personality, we'd love to see him in a home with older children who understand that little dogs deserve respect too.

If you're looking for a puppy that's equal parts adorable, hilarious, and slightly convinced he owns the place, Tazer is ready to move in and take over your heart (and probably your couch).

Hi, I’m Callie! I’m a beautiful diluted calico girl with a sweet personality and lots of love to give. I really enjoy getting pets and spending time close to my humans — I like to be wherever you are! I’m also quite the conversationalist and love chatting with my people throughout the day.

**No interest for Nigel. He's on the euthanasia list and has just a few days. We can only rescue him if he has a home to go to. Please take a moment to read about this good boy and share his post!**

Nigel was picked up as a stray, and like so many strays in rural Alabama, he was brought to a facility where his time is limited. Even though he's a very sweet boy anyone would be lucky to have, no one came for him. AHF would love to rescue him, but he needs a home to go to. Can you help?

Nigel is around 2 years old and weighs about 45 lbs. We don't know his breed mix, but he's a handsome one and may have some hound in him. Nigel is a calm, laid-back kind of guy, which we know many people desire in a canine companion. He's friendly with other dogs even when there's food around (and the way his hip bones jut out, you can tell he hasn't been getting enough food). He walks nicely on a leash. Cat compatibility is unknown.

We wish we had better pictures to share, but with some shelters, you get what you get and have to hope someone can see the special, deserving dog in the photos even if they're not Insta-worthy.

Hi! I’m Emmy, your future best friend and expert fuzzy ball carrier! I’m a sweet, curious, and playful girl looking for my forever home. I love exploring new things, getting lots of pets, and carrying my favorite fuzzy ball everywhere I go. I even make little noises so everyone knows I’ve got it—it’s kind of my thing! When I’m not proudly parading my ball, I enjoy mini adventures around the house, soaking up cuddles from my humans, and taking cozy naps. Sometimes I get a little playful and chase the shy kitties in my foster home—but it’s all in good fun!
