These three have no interest. Can you find room in your heart and home for one of them? All three are great pups who deserve a chance with AHF!

Left: Meet beautiful and well-behaved Brindy! Brindy is approximately 1 year old and weighs about 42 lbs. She is athletic and loves exercise. She'd be perfect for an active family with older kids. Brindy loves other dogs and responds well to those she meets. Cat compatibility is unknown. Brindy keeps her kennel clean, so she may be potty-trained (we can't guarantee that, but keeping her kennel clean is a promising sign). She's a quick learner with great manners!

Top Right: Hi, I'm Theo. I am a 6-month-old puppy who found himself alone on the streets. Now that someone brought me to a shelter, I'm hoping a rescue can help me get out. I am getting regular meals here, but I'm lonely spending almost all my time behind bars! I'm also told I can't stay too long, and I'm not sure what will happen to me if a rescue like AHF can't help me out.

I might be a good choice for you if you like sweet, playful puppies. (And doesn't everyone?) I currently weigh about 23 lbs. I don't know my breed mix, but everyone says I'm cute! My favorite things are people and treats. I am friendly toward everyone. I like other dogs, too. I have not met any cats. Because I'm not in a home, I can't show anyone what I know or don't know about things like housetraining or crate training, so it's probably best to assume I'll need some guidance. All puppies do! Please fill out an application if you can give me a home.

Bottom Right: Jake Ryan is a 6-year-old, 54-lb. mix. Everyone who meets him just adores his personality. He always has a smile on his face and is ready for some lovin'. He was a little shy at first but now looks forward to playtime and walks with volunteers. Jake Ryan has good leash manners. Although we can't say for sure that he's house-trained since he's in a shelter and not a home, he does keep his indoor/outdoor kennel area clean. He gets along with other dogs and has a lady friend at the kennel he really enjoys spending time with. Cat compatibility is unknown.

Please fill out an application if you can give Brindy, Theo, or Jake Ryan a home. AHF will have to leave them behind if we can't find homes for them.

For the past almost three years, Athens was the undisputed king of the Hanover Park streets. He single-handedly kept the local orange cat population thriving and was famous for leading his lady friends right to the best porches for gourmet meals. But today? This 4-year-old tabby has officially hung up his street-smart cape and is fully embracing the indoor luxury life!

Athens is a handsome fella. He has the sweetest, most delicate high-pitched meow you’ve ever heard. He’s learning to love the finer things, like chasing his automated butterfly toy and squeezing his large frame into a tiny toy tree trunk that he barely fits inside.

He is a wonderful, respectful roommate who gets along great with other cats. He absolutely loves getting head pats and staying close to his people, though he prefers to keep his paws on the ground (no being picked up, please!). Just be prepared for his evening routine: at exactly 9 PM, he will perform a full, dramatic opera for his wet food. Once dinner is served, he will promptly inform you that it’s bedtime, insisting on the lights being turned off and the door closed so he can get his beauty sleep in total peace.

Rebel is what you might call a "Make a Wish" dog. Sadly, his owner has been suffering from a recurring brain tumor. She has undergone multiple rounds of radiation and chemo, and she doesn't think she will survive this next round of treatment. She would love to know Rebel will have a loving home when she's gone.

Rebel is a 7-year-old shepherd mix. He is already experienced in being an indoor house dog and loved family member. Rebel is good with people, including older kids. He also gets along with other dogs. He is fully housebroken!

If you can give good boy Rebel a foster or foster-to-adopt home (and help out a woman who would be incredibly grateful), please fill out an application. AHF can't take Rebel in unless he has a place to stay. Don't forget, fostering is FREE!

I’m a gentle, affectionate kitty who loves the quieter things in life. Chin and ear scratches are my favorite, and I’ll give your hand a sweet little nudge when I’m ready for more. I’m not a fan of being picked up, so I’d do best in a home with older, respectful kids who understand that I enjoy affection on my own terms.

I get along well with calm, easygoing cats and dogs who know how to give a cat her space. However, a home where I’m the only 4 legged family member would be best for me. Most days, you’ll find me relaxing in my favorite window-side cat tower, watching the world go by, enjoying cozy naps, or gently playing with my toys.

Anyone for Newman? His first post didn't find him a foster or foster-to-adopt home, so we have our fingers crossed this one will. 🤞AHF cannot rescue Newman unless he has a home to go to.

This sweet and handsome 2-year-old mix weighs 45 lbs. He was picked up as a stray. We don't know his breed mix but his fur is a bit scruffy/wiry. Shelter volunteers describe Newman as a wonderful dog who is friendly and well-behaved. He's good with everyone he meets, including kids. He also gets along really well with other dogs and loves to play. Newman has good leash manners and keeps his kennel clean. He is also fully vetted and healthy. He is ready to leave shelter life behind; he's just needs someone to open their heart and home to him.

I’m Lucy, a confident, playful girl with a massive personality and a serious obsession with laser pointers (seriously—best. toy. ever.). When I'm not zooming around catching that elusive red dot, you can find me relaxing by a sunny window, keeping a close eye on the neighborhood.

I might take a few days to unpack my bags and settle into a new environment, but once I do, I transform into a chatty, affectionate little shadow! I love to follow my humans from room to room, weave between your legs, and purr like a tiny motorboat. I am a huge fan of finding a warm lap for an afternoon nap, and at night, my absolute favorite spot is right in bed with my favorite human.

While I am incredibly affectionate, I also have an independent spirit. I prefer affection on my own terms and can occasionally get overstimulated. Because of this, I would thrive best in a calm, adult-only home that respects my boundaries. If you're looking for a bright, curious companion to fill your home with energy and love, I'm your girl!

Jack Black is a ~4-month-old, 26-lb. puppy ready to give limitless love and boundless energy to his future furever family. Despite a rough start to life, he's such a happy pup, loving and affectionate. Because of his puppy energy, older kids are likely best. He is making strides everyday toward housetraining. Do people really shy away from black dogs? Prove us wrong!
Jenni is looking for her forever home. She and her 7 siblings got abandoned on a country road in Mississippi when they were just babies. She is now about 4.5 months old, a smart little girl who has already learned some commands like sit, give paw, down, stay (and wait to eat). She walks nicely on a leash and loves to go on walks.
Jenni is beautiful and gets quite a lot of attention at adoption shows. She wants to be everyone's friend, humans or animals. This cutie is fostered with small dogs and cats and wants to play with them, but not everyone wants to play with her.
With the right person or family, Jenni will continue to thrive. She would also do well with a well behaved, young, bigger dog that can serve as a role model and playmate.

Hi, I’m Latte! When I first arrived, I wasn’t quite sure about people yet. I liked to observe from a safe distance and take things slowly. These days, though, I’ve discovered the joys of the good life: snacks, warm sunbeams, and hanging out near my favorite humans, my foster family!

I have a tiny “quack” that I use when I want attention, and I love weaving around legs like a squeaky little car wash. I’m still learning that hands can be nice, but I’m proud to say I sometimes give gentle “pets” of my own once I feel comfortable.

I’m a calm, low-maintenance girl who gets along well with other mellow cats, so a home with other kitties would be purrfect for me! My favorite hobbies include watching birds and squirrels from a sunny window and enjoying peaceful company. I’m looking for a patient, quiet home where I can continue to blossom at my own pace. If you give me time to trust you, I’ll reward you with sweet leg hugs, soft affection, and lots of quiet charm.
