When the weather sucks, everyone gets a turn on the treadmill.

It’s a good way to get some energy out, but it’s also a little mental work because they have to pay attention and keep up with the speed of the treadmill.

There’s a difference between structure and taking the fun out of something.

With a pack of dogs, I’m always thinking about the bigger picture, not just whether they’re having fun, but that everyone is set up to have fun safely.

And yes…these dogs get PLENTY of opportunities to run, wrestle, chase each other, explore, swim, and zoom around.

A 15-second clip is just that. 15 seconds of their day.

The goal isn't to have a dog that only listens when you're holding the leash. The goal is to build enough training and trust that they can have freedom and still come back when I need them to.

Yes, my dogs are wearing e-collars. No, I'm not constantly using them. It's simply my safety net if I need to communicate with them in a situation where their choices matter.

Training gives them the freedom. The e-collar gives me peace of mind. And they get to be dogs.

One of my favorite things about having trained dogs is being able to just let them be dogs. We're outside and everyone is doing their own thing. Freyjas looking for rodents, Bailey is hoping I'll throw her ball, and these 3 are apparently having some leaves for an afternoon snack.

I don't have to constantly entertain them or tell them what to do. They can just hang out and enjoy being dogs.

And honestly, that's what I want training to give people. Not a dog that has to be controlled every second, but a dog that you can actually enjoy having around.
