Oliver already knows place. The correction wasn’t teaching him the command, it was holding him accountable to something he already understands.
While I was vacuuming, he was free to make his own choices. He decided barking and chasing the vacuum was what he wanted to do, so I stopped, leashed him up, and put him on his place bed.
When he tried to break place, he got one clear correction. After that, he made the right choice and settled in while I finished vacuuming.
Notice the end of the video. He isn’t stressed, he isn’t scared, and he isn’t trying to control what’s happening around him. He’s laying flat out, relaxed, because he understands exactly what is expected of him.
A lot of dogs don’t need more excitement, more treats, or more ways to avoid the things they struggle with. They need clear communication, fair boundaries, and the confidence that comes from knowing the rules.
A calm dog isn’t created by avoiding distractions, it’s built by teaching them how to exist around them.
