Shady wasn’t ready to give up. ❤️🐾

After surviving a traumatic accident, this 3-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier seemed to be on the road to recovery—until he suddenly took a turn for the worse.

Emergency testing revealed a ruptured bladder, meaning Shady needed immediate surgery to survive. His family had exhausted every payment option and fundraising effort they could find.

That’s where the Veterinary Assistance Grant stepped in. 🙏

This Grant support helped Shady get the lifesaving surgery and intensive care he needed. His prognosis is now good, and he had a second chance to go home to the family who never gave up on him.

Stories like Shady’s are why access to emergency veterinary care matters. 🐶💙

Leptospirosis, a preventable risk. . .

Lepto is transmitted through contact with infected animal urine, usually found in soil or water. There are many strains of Leptospira bacteria that can cause disease and many mammals are susceptible, including dogs, people, livestock, and even certain wildlife. Although rare, cats also may become ill.

Lepto is a risk for all dogs, not just rural or high-exposure pets. Urban dogs at dog parks, boarding facilities, or even those just drinking from a sidewalk puddle are not exempt.

Treatment includes antibiotics and supportive care. Depending on how sick an affected dog is, they may require fluid therapy, certain medications, and nutritional support. Dogs with severe disease may need intensive care measures, such as oxygen therapy or dialysis.

Vaccination is safe, effective, and recommended for every dog. This summer is a good opportunity to ask us about a Leptospirosis vaccine for your pets. 570-992-0400
