FOSTERING SAVES LIVES. LITERALLY.
Every single day, cats and dogs who are healthy, loving, and desperate for affection lose their lives for one heartbreaking reason: THERE IS NOWHERE FOR THEM TO GO.
Not because they're dangerous. Not because they're sick. Not because they've done anything wrong. BECAUSE THE SHELTER IS FULL AND NO ONE WILL FOSTER THEM!
I want you to imagine something.
Imagine a dog who has spent weeks, maybe even months, locked inside a small, cold kennel.
Every single day, he hears the other dogs barking. He watches as some of them leave with their new families. He sees people walking past his cage and every time someone approaches, his tail starts wagging.
He presses himself against the bars, desperately hoping someone will stop. Someone will pet him. Someone will finally choose him.
He doesn't understand why he's still there. He doesn't understand why the other dogs get to leave and he doesn't.
But he keeps waiting.
Day after day, he watches the people come and go. Every time footsteps approach, he gets excited, hoping this will finally be his chance.
Weeks turn into months. The excitement fades a little but he still wags his tail when someone walks by.
Then one day, SOMEONE FINALLY OPENS HIS KENNEL DOOR!
His tail starts wagging uncontrollably. He's jumping with excitement! Someone is finally giving him attention! Someone is finally taking him out of that cage!
He happily follows the person holding his leash, completely unaware of where he's going.
Maybe he's finally going home!
But he's not.
He's being led into a room where his life is about to end.
He doesn't understand why he's being restrained. He doesn't understand why strangers are giving him injections. He may be frightened or confused but he has no way of knowing what's happening.
HE HAS NO IDEA THESE ARE THE LAST MOMENTS OF HIS LIFE.
He'll never get to curl up on someone's couch or sleep beside someone who loves him.
He'll never get to run around a backyard with his favorite toy or go to a dog park.
He'll never experience the happiness of having a family who calls him their best friend.
He'll never know what it's like to finally belong somewhere.
NOT BECAUSE HE DIDN'T DESERVE THOSE THINGS, BUT BECAUSE NOBODY CAME TO SAVE HIM.
A TEMPORARY FOSTER HOME COULD HAVE CHANGED EVERYTHING.
YOU DON'T HAVE TO SAVE THEM ALL. YOU JUST HAVE TO HELP SAVE ONE. JUST EMPTY ONE KENNEL TO SAVE MULTIPLE LIVES!!
You might only be a temporary chapter in their story, but YOU COULD BE THE REASON THEY GET TO HAVE A STORY AT ALL.
PLEASE. BECOME A FOSTER. BE THE PERSON WHO SHOWS UP BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE.
THEIR LIVES DEPEND ON IT.
Rowan County animal services, Lee County, Lincoln County and Stokes County have a lot of dogs and cats with euthanasia dates. Please look on their website to see if there's any baby you can give a chance to!
