Scientists say humans and Golden Retrievers may share genetic roots for behaviour. A PNAS genome-wide study on 1,300+ Goldens (via the Golden Retriever Lifetime Study) found genes like PTPN1 linked to dog aggression & human intelligence, ROMO1 to trainability & emotional sensitivity, and variants HUNK/ASCC3 connecting dog nervousness with human worry & mood swings.

The overlap hints at shared emotional wiring from anxiety to how long we overthink embarrassing moments helping trainers & vets tailor behaviour and treatments.

As I tuck him in every night.

"He's not your kid."
As I make my breakfast, I scramble him up some eggies and make sure he gets the most important meal of the day.

"He's not your kid."
As I do my laundry, I make sure his blankets/jackets and beddng (he still sleeps with us every night in OUR bed) are also clean.

"He's not your kid."
As I nursed him back to his optimal health the first few months I had him.

"He's not your kid."
As I just changed my entire career and life so I could be home with him more during the days and save for our future because I was sick of seeing him so sad on the furbo.

"He's not your kid."
As I hang his coat/blanket (one of many) on the coat hanger next to ours.

"He's not your kid."
As I pick up all his toys and place them back on his bed for him to through them everywhere as soon as he waks up from his nap.

"He's not your kid."
As I take him out yet again to play and run in the snow while my fingers are numb but he's only a puppy for so long.

"He's not your kid."

Yea, he's not my kid.

He's my heart. My world. My baby.

And for those who can't see the similarities between a puppy and a child and for those who really think a dog is really "just a dog," you must never have found your heart dog and I pray one day, you do.

Lola, the golden retriever, was given a terminal cancer diagnosis with just a couple of months to live. An aggressive cancer of the mouth spread to her lungs at 9 years old.

A study conducted in 2018 by Canisius College in Buffalo, New York, found that women who sleep alongside their dogs tend to experience better sleep quality than those who share a bed with a human partner. Surveying 962 adult women across the United States, the research highlighted that dogs were less likely to interrupt sleep and often provided a greater sense of safety and comfort.

Dogs generally maintain consistent sleep patterns and are less likely to snore or move around unpredictably during the night. Many women also reported feeling more secure with a dog in bed, which may reduce anxiety and contribute to more restful sleep. In comparison, human partners were more frequently cited as sources of disturbance due to movement, noise and inconsistent sleep habits.

The study suggests that for women who value uninterrupted sleep and nighttime reassurance, sharing the bed with a dog may be more beneficial than sleeping next to a human companion.🤎🖤🩶
