July 4th is just 2 weeks away! Are you prepared to keep your pets calm and safe on the big day? Fireworks and busy barbecues can be very stressful for our furry friends. Below are some tips on how to keep your pet happy on the holiday:
🎆 Walk your dog earlier in the day before fireworks begin.
🎆 Create a safe space for your pet by making a soothing sanctuary. Play soft music, or set a white noise machine to help block out the sound of fireworks. Make sure their favorite comfy blanket or bed is there, along with a favorite toy or treat.
🎆 Leave your dog at home in their safe space instead of bringing them to a loud party or BBQ, especially if there will be fireworks there. More pets go missing on July 4th than any other day of the year!
🎆 If your pet goes into hiding, leave them be. Attempting to pull them out of hiding may be even more stressful, and they may attempt to bite or scratch.
🎆 Use calming products such as a Thundershirt, and ThunderEase or Feliway pheromone spray to help your pet feel more at ease.
🎆 If your pet takes anxiety medication for fireworks or other loud noises and you need a refill, please contact us. Advance notice is especially appreciated if you would like the prescription called in to a local pharmacy.
🎆 As always, feel free to contact us at 781-233-1340 with any questions or concerns about your pet and fireworks. Our staff would be happy to discuss any recommendations with you!
