Instead of starting next breeding season wondering if your donor mare will cycle on schedule, if your recipient mares will line up, or if you'll have enough time to produce the embryos you want, you can start the season with embryos already waiting.

Think of it as stockpiling your breeding program.

Create embryos now. Freeze them. Then when breeding season rolls around again, your focus shifts from making embryos to transferring embryos.

Less pressure.
Less scrambling.
More flexibility.

For many programs, frozen embryos create options that simply aren't available when everything depends on producing an embryo in a narrow window.

Every year, we hear it: "I guess we'll just wait until next year."

But the calendar doesn't always tell the whole story!

With an average gestation length of around 340 days, breeding in June can still result in a spring foal. For many programs, that timeline fits perfectly with their goals.

Whether you're considering an embryo transfer, a flush, aspiration, or creating embryos through ICSI, there may still be opportunities to make progress this season.

The final 30 days of breeding season are here, and every year we hear the same thing:

"I guess we'll have to wait until next year."

Not so fast.

There is still time to flush donor mares, transfer embryos, and put frozen embryos into recipient mares. In many cases, the breeding goals you set this spring are still very much within reach.

The last push of breeding season doesn't mean you've missed your opportunity—it simply means it's time to make a plan.

Breeding season has a funny way of making people nervous once the calendar flips to June, but let's put things into perspective.

The average equine gestation is approximately 340 days. An embryo transferred on June 15 would be expected to arrive around May 14 of next year. That's a spring-born foal!

In fact, studies examining futurity champions across multiple disciplines have shown that many top performers were born in April and May. And remember: futurities are often the very first major events these horses compete in.

A June transfer doesn't automatically mean you're behind.

What matters most is producing a healthy pregnancy, managing your donor and recipient mares correctly, and making thoughtful decisions throughout the breeding process—not rushing a breeding simply because of the date on the calendar.

If you've been wondering whether it's too late to make a breeding decision this season, the answer may surprise you.

Embryo transfer is all about timing.

One of the biggest factors in pregnancy success is synchronization between the donor mare and the recipient mare. Even a high-quality embryo still needs the right environment to establish a pregnancy.

That’s why we pay such close attention to ovulation timing, uterine health, and recipient mare readiness throughout the process. It is important that we are critical with the ovulation and CL check on transfer day, because that will determine whether the embryo gets transferred.

Sometimes that means passing on a recip mare that isn’t quite right that day — because protecting the embryo and maximizing pregnancy rates always comes first.
