At 14 her hearing isn’t what it used to be, but her nose and heart are strong. Now if only she could see where she is headed everything would be quite alright.

I photograph thousands of dogs every year, but capturing the photo is only part of it.

Seeing my images in the world and what they mean to people is where a lot of my fulfillment comes from.

If I make any difference in this world I want it to be a simple message, that life is better with dogs.

Sometimes something just grabs hold of you and lights a fire.

Dog photography did that for me. Especially retrievers and hunting dogs.

I’m not getting rich. I don’t really care. I’ll keep chasing it until I physically can’t anymore.

Here’s a sneak peek as I work on the layout & design of Vol. 2 of my *Hunt Test Photography* book.

This year, I’m adding a little more to the book and organizing it by the U.S. states I photographed during the 2026 hunt test season. I’m also adding the dogs’ names, which was one of the most common requests I heard after Vol. 1.

There’s something about putting a name with each dog that makes the photographs feel a little more personal and authentic, and I really like what it adds to the book.

And if I photographed your dog at a hunt test this year, there’s a pretty good chance you’ll spot them somewhere in these pages. That’s part of the fun of putting this together, getting to include so many of the dogs I’ve had in front of my camera throughout the season.

There’s still plenty of work ahead, but it’s coming together. Watch for Vol. 2 in mid to late November!

The air is beginning to change, little signs, smells, the breeze, a bit less sun. Fall is on the horizon and I’m looking forward to it.
