It’s National Veterinary Technician Week, and we want to take a moment to shine a massive spotlight on the heartbeat of veterinary medicine: our veterinary technicians.
From the first exam room greetings to the quiet, late-night monitoring checks, vet techs wear every hat imaginable. On any given day, they are:
Skilled medical professionals: Drawing blood, running lab panels, taking radiographs, placing IV catheters, and administering critical medications.
Surgical & anesthesia ninjas: Calculating dosages, inducing and monitoring anesthesia, prepping surgical suites, and staying by patients' sides until they are safely awake.
Patient advocates & comforters: Translating quiet signs of pain, holding frightened pets through tough procedures, offering warm blankets, and providing the gentle reassurance every nervous animal needs.
Client educators: Answering panicked phone calls, explaining discharge instructions clearly, and supporting families through some of their hardest days.
To our incredible technicians in our clinic: thank you for your relentless energy, sharp clinical instincts, and deep compassion. You handle messy, emotional, high-stress emergencies with calm focus and grace, then turn around and treat every patient like they were your own. Our doctors and hospital could not function for a single day without you.
And to vet techs everywhere—working emergency shifts, general practice, specialty, research, shelter medicine, and large animal barns across the country—we see your grit, your dedication, and your heart.
