September is here β€” and so is shedding season. πŸ‚

If your dog or cat seems to be leaving fur everywhere right now, you're not imagining it. Seasonal coat changes are completely normal as pets transition from their summer coat to a thicker winter one.

But here's what IS worth paying attention to:

πŸ”΄ Bald patches or uneven thinning
πŸ”΄ Skin that looks red, flaky, or irritated underneath
πŸ”΄ Excessive shedding that doesn't slow down after a few weeks
πŸ”΄ Your pet scratching or biting at the same spot repeatedly

Those signs can point to something beyond normal shedding β€” like a hormonal imbalance, ringworm, or an underlying skin condition that's worth catching early.

Tip: Regular brushing during the transition helps reduce shedding AND gives you a chance to check the skin underneath. It's one of the easiest things you can do at home.

If something looks off, we're here. Book an appointment and let's take a look. 🐾

Every pet is one of a kind β€” but we've noticed a few recurring personality types in our exam rooms. πŸ˜„πŸΎ
Which one is yours?

🌟 The Social Butterfly β€” greets every staff member, tail never stops, probably tries to follow us into the back
😀 The Skeptic β€” side-eyes everything, tolerates the exam, makes it very clear they have opinions
🫣 The Hider β€” somehow disappears inside a carrier that's clearly too small for them
🎭 The Drama Queen β€” you'd think we were performing surgery based on the reaction to a temperature check
😴 The Chill One β€” unbothered by everything, could nap through anything
🐾 The Velcro Pet β€” will not leave their owner's lap under any circumstances
Drop your pet's name and their type in the comments! πŸ‘‡ And if they're a combination (we see a lot of Drama Queen/Skeptic hybrids), tell us that too. 🐢🐱

Constant scratching. Recurring ear infections. Hot spots that keep coming back. Paws your dog won't stop licking.

These aren't just annoyances β€” they're signs that something is going on beneath the surface, and they deserve a real answer.

Skin and allergy issues are among the most common reasons pets come to see us, and also among the most mismanaged β€” because without identifying the root cause, you're just treating symptoms in a loop.

Here's how we approach it:

πŸ” Full skin and coat assessment during the exam
πŸ§ͺ Cytology to identify bacterial or yeast infections
πŸ’‰ Discussion of environmental vs. food allergy triggers
πŸ“‹ Tailored treatment plans β€” not just a steroid and a prayer
πŸ”„ Follow-up to make sure the plan is actually working

Common culprits we investigate:
β€” Seasonal environmental allergens (grass, pollen, dust mites)
β€” Food sensitivities (often protein sources, not grains)
β€” Contact irritants
β€” Underlying hormonal conditions like hypothyroidism

If your pet has been dealing with skin issues that keep coming back, it's time to dig deeper. Book an appointment and let's figure out what's actually going on. 🐾

Every pet has an origin story β€” and we never get tired of hearing them. 🐾

Some of our favorite patients came from breeders, some from shelters, some showed up uninvited and never left. One was found in a parking lot. Another was a gift that turned into a 14-year love story.

We want to hear yours.

πŸ‘‡ Tell us: how did your pet come into your life?

Was it planned? A total surprise? Did they choose you? Drop the story in the comments β€” the longer the better. We're here for all of it. 🐢🐱

"Complete and balanced" is on almost every bag of pet food. But what does it actually mean and is your pet's current diet right for their age, breed, and health status?
Nutrition is one of the most impactful factors in your pet's long-term health, and it's one of the most confusing areas for pet owners to navigate.

Here's what we look at during a nutrition conversation:

🐾 Life stage β€” puppies, adults, and seniors have very different needs
βš–οΈ Body condition score β€” not just weight, but how weight is distributed
🦴 Breed-specific considerations β€” large breeds, brachycephalic breeds, and working dogs all have unique requirements
πŸ₯ Health conditions β€” kidney disease, allergies, diabetes, and joint issues all have dietary implications
πŸ₯© Raw, grain-free, prescription diets, weight loss β€” we'll help you sort through the noise with evidence-based guidance
β€” Contact irritants
β€” Underlying hormonal conditions like hypothyroidism

ATTENTION BREEDERS! Did you know that allergies are often hereditary? It is a good idea to add allergies to your list of health considerations when adding an individual to your gene pool!
