🐾 Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Dan! 🐾

If you’ve spent much time at Cat Depot, chances are you know Dan! Since 2015, he has given an incredible 3,450+ hours of service and is a familiar face to our staff, cats, and visitors, volunteering around three times a week. ❤

Dan’s Cat Depot story began in 2014, when he and his wife adopted their kitty, Tini. He began volunteering the following year, and in 2015, Ariel also joined their family through Cat Depot. 🐈‍⬛

More than a decade later, volunteering at Cat Depot has become a constant in Dan’s life. He has served in several roles over the years, with much of his time dedicated to our Food Bank and Adoption teams.

And when it comes to adoptions, Dan might just be one of our resident cat whisperers! 🐱 He takes the time to truly get to know the cats in our care—their personalities, quirks, and what makes each one special. His favorite part of volunteering is building those relationships and then using what he knows to help match adopters with the right cat for their family. Sometimes, finding the perfect match starts with someone who already knows exactly which kitty you need to meet!

Dan’s love for our cats doesn’t stop when his shift ends, either. He’s always capturing photos of the kitties he gets to know and sharing the faces that make his time at Cat Depot so special. 📸🐱

After 10+ years and 3,450+ volunteer hours, Dan’s consistency, compassion, and dedication have made a lasting impact on Cat Depot and the cats we serve.

Thank you, Dan, for everything you continue to do for our cats, our adopters, and our community. We are incredibly grateful to have you as part of the Cat Depot family! 🐾❤️

🧺 Help Support Our Shelter Team — One Laundry Basket at a Time! 🐾

Our laundry baskets are officially on their last legs, and Lilypad and Frog have the photographic evidence. 😹

At Cat Depot, laundry runs around the clock. From blankets and towels to bedding used throughout our shelter, our baskets get a LOT of mileage — and right now, many have broken handles, cracked sides, and sharp, jagged pieces that are poking and scratching our team.

We’re asking our community to help us replace 6 of our well-loved laundry baskets! 🧺❤️

We’ve added new baskets to our wishlist, and they can be shipped directly to Cat Depot.

Meet Stewie & Migi, a bonded pair who are ready to bring double the love to one lucky family!

🐱 Stewie, 2 years old, is a friendly boy who loves attention and is always happy to soak up some affection.

🐱 Migi, 9 months old, is a handsome young guy who loves his best buddy Stewie — and he’s more than happy to accept plenty of pets himself!

These two have decided life is simply better together, so they’re looking for a forever home where they can stay side by side. With Stewie and Migi, you don’t have to choose between one amazing cat or another — you get both! 🥹🐾

Two hours. That’s the difference. 🐾

These photos were taken just two hours apart during our most recent Community Food Bank distribution this past Saturday. At 10:00 a.m., our shelves and pallets were stocked. By noon, much of that food was already headed home with local families and their cats.

Cat Depot operates our area’s largest Food Bank for household and community cats, helping families facing financial hardship keep their cats fed, cared for and where they belong — at home. ❤️

Each month, we provide food for approximately 1,500 cats across Sarasota and Manatee counties, distributing nearly 3,000 pounds of cat food.

And every bag you see in these photos comes from our community. Our Food Bank is supported entirely by donations of wet and dry cat food and as quickly as these shelves empty, we need your help filling them again.

🐾 The shelves may be empty, but the need isn’t.

Double the love, double the fun. Meet Kit & Honey! 🐱💕🐱

At 7 years old, Kit and Honey are a bonded pair of best friends looking for their forever home together — and these two have plenty of personality to go around!

🐾 Kit is outgoing, confident and incredibly loving. He loves getting pets, giving kisses and playing with his toys — but his specialty? Playing fetch like a dog! Toss his favorite toy and he’ll happily show you how it’s done.

🍯 Honey can be a little shy when you first meet her, but once she feels comfortable, her sweet side shines. She loves playtime, enjoys being held and is always happy to soak up some affection.

Both Kit and Honey have done well with other animals and kids, and wherever their next adventure takes them, they’ll be taking it together. ❤️

What an honor to be recognized alongside so many incredible organizations in our community! 🐾

Cat Depot was proud to be named a finalist at the Manatee Chamber of Commerce 46th Annual Small Business & Nonprofit of the Year Awards.

This recognition belongs to the staff, volunteers, fosters, donors, partners and supporters who make our mission possible every day. Together, we’re creating brighter futures for cats and the people who love them throughout our community.

🎂 Celebrate with us! Cat Depot turns 23 on September 8, and we’re celebrating with special activities throughout the day.

🎨 Get creative! Our 2026 Cat Depot Art Contest opens September 1! Students in grades K–12 can create an original work of art inspired by this year’s theme, “Animals Make a Difference.”

🍽️ Dine. Vote. Help cats. The 1905 Family of Restaurants Community Harvest runs all September long! Dine at a participating restaurant and cast your vote to support Cat Depot.
