🐶💉 DOG VACCINES: CORE vs. NON-CORE

Did you know, vaccines are divided into CORE and NON-CORE vaccines. Core vaccines are recommended for all dogs unless there is a specific medical reason not to vaccinate that your veterinarian has diagnosed. Non-core vaccines are selected based on lifestyle, location, and exposure risk.

🛡️ CORE VACCINES
These are recommended because they protect against serious, widespread or life-threatening-diseases:

✔️ Distemper
✔️ Adenovirus
✔️ Parvovirus
✔️ Parainfluenza
✔️ Leptospirosis
✔️ Rabies

🌿 NON-CORE VACCINES
These depend on your dog’s lifestyle, location, and risk of exposure:

✔️ Bordetella
✔️ Canine influenza

Does your dog go to boarding or daycare? 🐾
Visit dog parks? 🐕
Travel? ✈️
Spend lots of time outdoors? 🌳

These activities can affect which non-core vaccines your veterinarian may recommend.

❤️ The goal isn’t to give every dog every vaccine. It’s to make sure YOUR dog gets the protection that’s right for them.

Talk with your veterinarian about your dog’s lifestyle and vaccination history to create an individualized vaccine plan.

💉🐾 August is National Immunization Awareness Month! 🐾💉

Vaccines are one of the most important tools we have to help protect our pets from serious and sometimes life-threatening diseases.

Just like people, our pets’ vaccination needs can change throughout their lives. Puppies and kittens need a proper vaccine series to build protection, while adult pets need boosters based on their individual needs and risk factors.

Your pet’s vaccination plan may depend on things like:
🐶🐱 Age and life stage
🏡 Indoor vs. outdoor lifestyle
🐕 Boarding, daycare, grooming, or dog parks
✈️ Travel plans
🌎 Where you live and the diseases found in your area
❤️ Overall health and medical history

Not every pet needs every vaccine, but every pet deserves a vaccination plan tailored to them. ❤️

This National Immunization Awareness Month, take a moment to make sure your furry family member is up to date!

📅 Not sure what your pet needs? Ask us! We’re happy to review their vaccine history and help create the right protection plan.

🔥 Too Hot for Their Paws? 🔥

If the pavement feels hot to your hand, it’s too hot for your pet’s paws! 🐾

Before heading out for a walk, try the 7-second test:
✋ Place the back of your hand on the pavement for 7 seconds. If it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for them.

🐶 Protect your pet by:
• Walking early in the morning or later in the evening
• Choosing grass or shaded paths whenever possible
• Watching for signs of burned paw pads, such as limping or excessive licking

A little planning can help keep those paws safe all summer long! ❤️🐾
