We genuinely love working with our private lesson clients, and many dogs do extremely well in that format, but today we're addressing our PBBM Program.

The dogs entering this program are different. These are often dogs that have spent years rehearsing behaviors that have become deeply ingrained. They have reactivity, aggression., fixation, anxiety, overstimulation, emotionally based impulsive behaviors, fear, phobias, etc.

These patterns don’t just “happen.” They become neurologically rehearsed responses that the dog has learned to rely on because, in some way, those behaviors either worked for them or helped them cope. The behavior feels rewarding, familiar, and effective, and those pathways do not disappear after a couple lessons.

That’s why this program is rehabilitation. Our PBBM program is often a relationship reset for both the dog and the owner. It gives the dog the structure, clarity, accountability, and progression they desperately need, while also giving the owner the opportunity to become educated and skilled enough to maintain that progress long-term, as we REQUIRE weekly lessons with the owner and dog, so they can see the progress happening that week, and learn how we got there, and to give them the skills needed to maintain it.

Some dogs cannot afford more mistakes or inconsistencies that can naturally happen during a private lesson format. Those are the dogs this program is truly meant for. Their family’s safety may depend on it, their future in the home may depend on it, and their quality of life may depend on it.

There is a massive difference between:
• A professional working hands-on with the behavior every single day and an overwhelmed owner trying to DIY severe behavioral issues while juggling work, kids, schedules, emotions, real life, and one hour of instruction at a time.

Our clients are different, their dogs are different, and what we do is not about convenience, it’s about giving dogs and their families the best possible chance at a stable, safe, fulfilling life.

Every year thousands of dogs celebrate America by absolutely losing their minds 🇺🇸

This holiday is also one of the busiest times of year for lost dogs. Panicked dogs jump fences, break out of crates, slip collars, and many never make it back home. Early Firework Prep matters, especially for puppies, rescue dogs, anxious dogs, and teenage dogs who are still learning how to regulate themselves through stressful situations.

A few things that help:
• Don’t wait until July 4th to introduce the crate. Panic + brand new confinement usually goes poorly.
• Exercise your dog EARLIER in the day. Mentally fulfilled dogs typically handle stress better.
• Fans, TVs, white noise, and calm structure help more than people realize.

If your dog already struggles with anxiety, reactivity, overstimulation, or nervous behaviors, fireworks usually magnify it.

We put together a free Fireworks & Anxiety guide for local families that goes deeper into helping dogs prepare BEFORE the chaos starts.

Comment “FIREWORKS” and we’ll send it over 🐾

We’re also trying to fill up our summer Board & Train schedule right now, so we’re offering 25% off June enrollments to help more families before the holiday chaos starts.

We’re ALSO offering a $75 referral bonus for successful sign ups, so if you know someone with a dog needing help, share this post with them 🐾

This boy is learning one of the hardest, and most important lessons for dogs who struggle socially:

The world doesn’t revolve around him.
Not every dog wants to interact, and not every dog is an invitation.

A huge part of rehabilitation for dogs like Milan is teaching social neutrality instead of forced socialization. Existing calmly around other dogs without needing to control them, greet them, fixate on them, or react to them is a massive skill.

We spend so much time telling people dogs need “socialization,” but real socialization isn’t chaotic daycare energy or nonstop play. It’s learning how to exist calmly and confidently in the world.

Milan is learning:
• Other dogs can move around him without it meaning anything
• He doesn’t need to insert himself into every interaction
• Calm dogs ignore each other all the time
• Neutrality is freedom

And this boy is an absolute rockstar! He’s starting to look a lot lighter because of it.

For dogs who carry big feelings about the world, removing the pressure to constantly engage can be life changing.

What do these dogs all have in common?

Scotty the Poodle.
Charlie the Mini doodle.
MilĂĄn the Golden Retriever/Lab mix.
Lucy the GSP.

At first glance? Not much. Right?

Let's look genetically though. All 4 of those breeds were built to be incredible sporting and retrieving dogs.

Poodles, Golden Retrievers, Labrador Retrievers, and German Shorthaired Pointers are all breeds purposefully developed to work closely with humans, move for hours at a time, stay environmentally engaged, think independently, tolerate high levels of stimulation, retrieve, hunt, track, and problem solve, and interestingly all of these breeds can also be prone to anxiety-related behaviors when their brains and bodies don’t have appropriate outlets.

Highly intelligent and environmentally sensitive working dogs tend to notice everything, observe shifts, think fast, and they're emotionally responsive.

When those genetics don’t have direction, structure, fulfillment, decompression, and an off-switch, that energy often spills out into behaviors such as reactivity, inability to settle, hypervigilance, destructive behaviors, frantic energy, vocalization, and nervous behaviors.

Sporting dogs were never meant to just exist in the background of life, and a huge part of our job as trainers is to teach these dogs how to slow down, regulate, decompress, and exist successfully in a modern human world that often asks them to ignore everything they were bred to do.

That’s exactly where we come in.
Our programs are designed for intelligent, environmentally sensitive sporting and working dogs who need more than basic exercise to truly settle and thrive.

Got a Poodle, Doodle, GSP, Golden Retriever, or Lab who’s struggling to settle, regulate, or just slow down a little?

We’re looking for two puppies and their families to help us test, evaluate, and fine-tune our Comprehensive Puppy Board and Train Program from start to finish before we officially re-launch it.

We are specifically looking for:
• One puppy 12–14 weeks old
• One puppy 16–20 weeks old

This is essentially a developmental “trial run” of the updated program structure meaning participating families will work closely with us throughout the process while we evaluate timing, owner support, lesson structure, transition periods, and long-term results as the puppies mature.

This program is built around how puppies actually develop, working with them during the stages their brains are most receptive to learning, habit formation, confidence building, and behavioral change, rather than training once and hoping it sticks forever… or waiting until things have already gone sideways.

The structure includes:
• 4 weeks of board and train paired with weekly owner lessons during early development (10–16 weeks old)
• 2–4 months at home with biweekly lessons
• 4 weeks with us again during adolescence (6+ months old)

Most puppy owners do great for the first few months… until adolescence hits. Suddenly the puppy who “knew everything” stops listening, starts pushing boundaries, develops bad habits, or turns into a teenage velociraptor with opinions.

A huge percentage of behavioral fallout happens around 7–10 months of age because development changes, hormones kick in, consistency gets harder, and most people no longer have professional support by that point.

Our goal with this program is to create smoother transitions through adolescence, improve long-term reliability, and build a program that gives owners support before problems become overwhelming.

We’re looking for owners who are:
• Committed to the full process
• Willing to stay engaged during the at-home phase
• Comfortable with communication, feedback, and collaboration throughout the program

As a thank you for helping us refine and finalize the structure, these two pilot program spots are being offered at 50% off!

Give us a ring at 801-372-9140 if you'd like the support with your puppy!

Everyone wants to talk about schedules, crates, and “consistency.” when it comes to potty training puppies.

Cool.

But if your dog isn’t actually going when you take them outside, none of those matters.

Dogs are built to move first. Walk. Sniff. Explore. Regulate, and then eliminate. In that order.

Small dogs are no exception, however, what is our natural instinct to do instead? We pick them up, carry them outside, stand in one spot and say “go potty” like they’re a robot, and then we’re confused when nothing happens. So you bring them back inside, and 5 minutes later, they have an accident.

Small dogs are notorious for not having a potty-training problem, they have a biological fulfillment problem in the form of lack of movement.

💡 Potty training is physical before it’s behavioral, as most people expect control from a body that hasn’t even been activated yet.

🐶 A dog that hasn’t moved enough can’t go—no matter how “consistent” you think you are.

The most underrated (and actually fun) way to potty train your puppy?

Take a day trip.

No, seriously. Block off the day. Grab a friend, your kids, or your partner. Pick a dog-friendly destination.

Bring:
Water + bowl
Leash (and long line if you have one)
A favorite toy
Good shoes..…and go.

Potty training isn’t just about inside outside all day long.
Potty training is building clear patterns + repetition in real life, and a day trip gives you frequent potty opportunities, different chaos than home, and a more regulated, engaged puppy

The golden rule that makes it work is freedom is that freedom comes after pottying. Puppy rides secured in a crate or properly restrained with supervision.

When you stop → straight to a potty spot, with no wandering, no playtime first. Potty = access to the world. This matters because you're creating clarity:

Car/crate = hold it
Outside = go
Potty = reward + freedom

That black-and-white system is what speeds everything up, especially for stubborn pups, and as a benefit, you’re building way more than potty training, you're building environmental confidence, proprioception, leash handling, recall foundations, neutral exposure, and the best part is you're not stuck at home managing accidents all day long.

You're enjoying life and building the perfect puppy.

With our most difficult to potty training puppies, we use this trick, and it is the trick that makes potty training click.

Kaido the Yorkie is here for our 2 week puppy foundations program and he got to go on a training day trip to help aid his potty training where he's been mrle difficult. We made the trip down to Southern Utah, saw some petroglyphs, some lizards ( he thought they were pretty cool), played in some sand, and got to pick out a toy from Tractor Supply and meet some pretty cool people.

We have multiple puppy foundations levels and would love to help your puppy develop into the perfect puppy!

Call/Text us at 801-372-9140 to see if we're a good fit your your perfectly imperfect pup!
