What do these dogs all have in common?
Scotty the Poodle.
Charlie the Mini doodle.
MilĂĄn the Golden Retriever/Lab mix.
Lucy the GSP.
At first glance? Not much. Right?
Let's look genetically though. All 4 of those breeds were built to be incredible sporting and retrieving dogs.
Poodles, Golden Retrievers, Labrador Retrievers, and German Shorthaired Pointers are all breeds purposefully developed to work closely with humans, move for hours at a time, stay environmentally engaged, think independently, tolerate high levels of stimulation, retrieve, hunt, track, and problem solve, and interestingly all of these breeds can also be prone to anxiety-related behaviors when their brains and bodies donât have appropriate outlets.
Highly intelligent and environmentally sensitive working dogs tend to notice everything, observe shifts, think fast, and they're emotionally responsive.
When those genetics donât have direction, structure, fulfillment, decompression, and an off-switch, that energy often spills out into behaviors such as reactivity, inability to settle, hypervigilance, destructive behaviors, frantic energy, vocalization, and nervous behaviors.
Sporting dogs were never meant to just exist in the background of life, and a huge part of our job as trainers is to teach these dogs how to slow down, regulate, decompress, and exist successfully in a modern human world that often asks them to ignore everything they were bred to do.
Thatâs exactly where we come in.
Our programs are designed for intelligent, environmentally sensitive sporting and working dogs who need more than basic exercise to truly settle and thrive.
