Poly Filter Pads are invaluable in achieving and maintaining water quality in freshwater and marine aquariums.PFPs are a chemical adsorbant that removes medications, dye medications, nitrates and ammonia, pesticides and heavy metals. Each chemical removed results in a different color in the pad, showing you, definitively, that chemicals are being removed. As you can see in the pics PFPs start out snow white, but in this case turned a very dark red color.
These pads need to be put someplace where water is forced through them, ideally sandwiched between filter floss in a canister filter or in the sump of your trickle filter. They can even be placed on top of an undergravel plate, under the gravel.
