Those oversized claws do most of the work. The tail is the backup plan. πŸ¦‚

Emperor scorpions rely on crushing strength rather than venom, which is why their sting is often compared to a bee sting and why they have a reputation as one of the calmest scorpions in the hobby. They also glow bright blue under UV light thanks to a compound in their exoskeleton. Keep them warm, humid, and give them deep substrate to burrow into with a solid hide on top.

Those rows of armor plating are not decoration, they are body armor with a purpose. 🦎

Sudan plated lizards wedge themselves into rock crevices and puff up so the overlapping scales lock them in place, making them nearly impossible to pull out. In captivity that instinct turns into serious burrowing, so deep substrate, heavy cork bark, and stacked stable rock work matter more than open floor space. Give them a hot basking spot and they turn into confident, curious, surprisingly bold lizards.

We stock the durable decor and heat gear these desert dwellers need. Browse at allanspetcenter.com or come see one in person.

Eight eyes, and the two big ones see better than almost any other invertebrate on earth. πŸ•·

Jumping spiders hunt by sight instead of webs, stalking prey and calculating the leap before they take it. That vision is also why they turn to track you through the glass, which is exactly what makes them feel more like a tiny pet than a bug. They stay small, live in a vertical enclosure the size of a jar, and eat flightless fruit flies or pinhead crickets.

Curious about starting with inverts? These are one of the easiest entry points. See what we have at allanspetcenter.com or come meet them in store.

Look closely at that pattern and you can see why morph collecting became a whole hobby. 🐍

Ball pythons carry more documented genetic morphs than almost any other reptile, and combos like this one turn the classic dark brown and gold into something brighter and more defined. Care stays the same across every morph: a warm side around 88 to 90Β°F, a cool side near 78, snug hides on both ends, and humidity steady enough for clean sheds. Docile, slow moving, and easy to handle once settled.

New morphs come through often. Check what is available at allanspetcenter.com or stop by either LA location.

Fits in your palm today. Over 100 pounds later. 🐒

Sulcata tortoises are the third largest tortoise species in the world, and that adorable hatchling size lasts about a year before the growth really starts. They need a grass and hay based diet, strong UVB, dry warm conditions, and eventually far more outdoor space than most people plan for. Fruit and lettuce are the fastest way to a soft, pyramided shell.

Thinking about one? Come talk to our reptile team first so you go in with the full picture, or start at allanspetcenter.com.

That head-up tilt is not attitude, it is thermoregulation. Painted agamas need a 100 to 110°F basking spot before digestion even starts. Get the heat and UVB right and a sluggish lizard turns active fast. Think of them as the bearded dragon's rarer cousin. Gear at allanspetcenter.com 🦎

Nobody does side-eye like a bearded dragon. 🦎

There's a reason beardies are the reptile everyone falls for first. They're calm, they're curious, and once they figure out you're the one with the food, they'll bond with you and actually seem happy to see you. Watch one for five minutes and you'll get it.

To keep that color bright and that energy up, they need fresh greens every day, dusted bugs, and a proper high-output UVB and basking setup. Skimp on the lighting and everything else suffers.

Whether you're upgrading a setup or just want to keep your dragon thriving, come talk to us.
