Sandia Creek Ranch is a wonderful stable. Crystal and her daughters quite a few ex PMU mares through The Animali Farm several years ago. They raised the foals that the mares were carrying, and trained the mares and their babies to be part of the riding program at Sandia Creek Ranch. We are so sad to hear that their family has lost the family home in a tragic fire.

Today we lost Tanya. She came to our sanctuary in 2010. Tanya was a wonderful Shire mare, a kind and gentle soul. A true gentle giant. She arrived here skinny and very pregnant in 2010. Three weeks after getting here she gave birth to a beautiful c**t.

We found Tanya in North Dakota at a PMU farm that had gone out of the business. My first memory of her was in North Dakota when the rancher walked across the field and petted this sweet mare. I was shocked to know that such an amazing horse was on a PMU farm, and I knew we had to find her a home. I had no idea that her home would be with us.

It is always shocking to loose a young horse. Tanya we 11 years young. Yesterday everything was fine, or at least we thought it was. Today she is gone.

This morning at aprox. 6 am The Animali Farm's dump truck was stolen. Cheryl Forbes heard the thief start the truck, and followed him 16 miles to town. She lost him when she stopped at the gas station to call 911. Law enforcement did a GREAT job at find our truck, and getting it back. What we know for sure is that the truck needs two new tires, and a front rim. We don't know if any mechanical damage was done, or what shape the other 4 tires are in. CHP just called and the guys name is Jesus Fernandez, in USA illegally. He told officers a story about being held captive in the mountains for a few days, escaping, and finding our truck to make his getaway!

A 31-year-old man was arrested Monday morning after leading officials on a pursuit from Goleta to Ventura in a stolen dump truck.

My PMU mare feels comfortable enough around me to fall sound asleep and have a nice dream! (and this only a few weeks after I rescued her)
