Fuzzy-Wolf Canine Behavioral Center

Fuzzy-Wolf Canine Behavioral Center Fuzzy-Wolf Canine Behavioral Center is a canine training center to improve human/ dog interaction Do you have issues with your dog?

Is he barking, biting, jumping, digging, ripping up the furniture? Is she seemingly frightened of children, garbage trucks, other dogs, noises or humans? Does he guard you, get snappy with other dogs, or chase the cat? There are many issues they can have- obsession, nervousness, aggression, dominance- and all of them are caused by us. If you want to overcome these issues, you must first realize th

at you are the source. Help for behavioral issues starts with your willingness to change some of your own behavior. Dogs feed on the energy around them right now. They do not understand anger, frustration, feeling guilty or sorry, being out of time or any of the other complicated emotions that humans express. Dogs take all of that as weakness. The only thing they respond to is calmness, patience, and strength. Once we can determine the source of the behavior, we can come up with a plan to redirect or correct the behavior, and then reward appropriately for the right behavior.

A practical way to train your dog and address behavior issues

Until today (February 20, 2017) I have been holding classes and socialization parties at the PET FOOD DEPOT in Palo Alto, California. Recently, they informed me that they were closing their doors after 30 years. I am looking for space in Palo Alto, Mountain View, Los Altos or Sunnyvale to hold training and socialization, but I want a donated space, because I believe that puppy and older dog socialization should be FREE to the public as a community service. I have written an article for a local paper which I will post next. Thank you to anyone who loves dogs and understands that socialization is so important- most dogs turned into shelters under 3 years old are euthanized due to poor behaviors. If we socialize early and often, maybe we can enhance their lives, keep them in homes...and maybe save them, too.

Greetings, everyone! As of October, I am no longer working as a dog trainer at Petco in Sunnyvale or in Mountain view. I have negotiated with the Pet Food Depot at 425 Portage Avenue in Palo Alto, California. It is a small but wonderful family-owned business and I now have Puppy Playtime on Sundays and training classes on both Sunday and Monday. I miss my co-workers at Petco, and still go visit, but am very excited about this new opportunity. Please go to www.fuzzy-wolf.com and check out the Group classes page for more information.
Thank you to everyone who has supported me over the years. Please bring your pooch and come visit me and Patti!

Going to the Dog Park? This can be a very fun and energy-draining outing for your dog or puppy- and also a great chance for you to observe dog behavior, and to add to socialization. To make sure it is a positive experience, here are a few tips:
1- the dog park should be a reward, so always draining your dog's energy first through a structured walk is a good idea. Dogs that enter a dog park too excited can create a bit of chaos!
2-take your time- when you enter the area, you can choose to just calmly walk around the outside of the fence to observe and give your dog a chance to calm down. If the dog is somewhat calm, you can enter the area where you take the leash off, but do not open the door yet. Stand back, give the other dogs a chance to come up and greet behind the fence, and then wait until they are not near the gate before you go in. When dogs give space, they are inviting the new dog in.
3-When you go in, immediately walk away from your dog. Don't look, just walk away confidently- usually, your dog will meet the other dogs, and then follow you. If you crowd the dogs while they are greeting, you can create stress.
4- Staying calm is better than yelling excitedly- the dogs are already excited- no need to add more!
5- If you are not experienced, you can talk to the other folks there- most people are very friendly and helpful!

This is Lily and her owners graduating. Lily is deaf, and only has limited vision in one eye, but she doesn't care! We started giving her more body language commands, and are now working on a set of specific vibrations that she can feel. Incorporating not sounds, but vibration to convey a message or command should give her owners a new way to communicate. She is now going to dog parks and doing just fine. Congratulations, Lily!
