Say hi to Murph, a Labrador Retriever and a true Santa Barbara local. Labs are friendly and food motivated, which makes them easy to teach and easy to spoil. The trick is using that food drive on purpose, so good manners get rewarded instead of counter surfing. A little structure goes a long way with a happy dog like this. That is Archie, a Doberman Pinscher, out on the sand near Santa Barbara. Dobermans are athletic and deeply loyal, and they do their best work when they trust the person leading them. Channel that drive into training and you get a confident, focused partner. Leave it idle and it turns into restlessness.
