Canine Rehabilitation of Orange County

Canine Rehabilitation of Orange County CROC was established in 2017, though it originally began as The Vet's House Rehabilitation in 2014.

We are a Veterinary Medical Rehabilitation Center providing state of the art physical therapy for dogs compromised by injury, age, obesity, surgery or congenital issues to restore quality of life. Located in central Orange County, CROC works to restore quality of life to your geriatric, injured, overweight, postoperative, and neurological or otherwise compromised pet through physical therapy. Our

caring team of Licensed Veterinary Medical Professionals will help your dog to feel stronger, move better and be safer. Our goals at CROC are to relieve pain, restore range of motion/movement, improve function, prevent injuries and expand the physical potential of each patient we treat. CROC was designed to offer state of the art therapy to pets in need without the stress and fears many patients have associated with pet hospital visits. Early 2020, we upgraded to a new and larger building in Santa Ana, conveniently located just off the 55 Freeway. Our new facility is outfitted with an Underwater Treadmill, a full obstacle course for balance and proprioceptive exercises, and individual sections for our patients to rest comfortably while remaining cage-free. We structure each therapy session to achieve maximum results to each individual patient. The center has a very mellow, calming atmosphere that we know our patients enjoy.

Baylor has been one of the incredible success stories we've shared with Southern California Golden Retriever Rescue and he's also a perfect model for the importance of a custom built cart AND continued physical conditioning to keep him fit enough to use his cart for years! Humans can sit and rest in their wheelchairs, but dogs can't so their body must be strong enough to support the weight of their body and push their cart. Custom built carts keep the body in ergonomic positioning that minimizes compensatory pain, make rolling along as easy and comfortable as possible, and are built with the dog's future in mind so the cart can be adjusted as they age or their medical condition changes and will last for the dog's lifetime - often longer!

We're so proud to partner with Southern California Golden Retriever Rescue to help dogs like Baylor! If you're looking to add a gorgeous golden to your family or would like to support their cause, visit https://scgrrescue.org/ πŸ’™πŸΎπŸ’›

Your dog's day to day life involves more than just walking straight on a flat surface, so it's important that their Rehab Plan include exercises that will prepare them to safely navigate their world. Mackenzie does a beautiful job working through her target exercises and we're so proud of her!!! πŸΎπŸ’™πŸ₯³

⚠️⚠️⚠️ FLEA-BORNE TYPHUS IN OC ⚠️⚠️⚠️

The Orange County Mosquito & Vector Control District has issued a public warning regarding an increased risk of flea-borne typhus. This potentially fatal bacterial disease is primarily transmitted by fleas living on wildlife & domestic animals (especially dogs), prompting local health officials to urge residents to take immediate preventive action to protect their households & pets.

CROC patients have always been required to be flea-free in order to participate in therapy, but diseases like this make it even more important for all pet owners to ensure their pets are on veterinarian approved flea & tick preventative year-round, even indoor-only cats.

Additional Prevention Tips:

- Avoid stray wildlife: Do not touch, pet, or feed stray cats, opossums, or other neighborhood wild animals.
- Remove food sources: Never leave pet food outdoors overnight, as it attracts rodents & wildlife hosts.
- Maintain your property: Keep yards clear of debris, clutter, & woodpiles where animals might hide.
- Trim landscaping: Keep plants & bushes trimmed back to eliminate overgrown brush where fleas thrive.
- Secure your trash: Keep all garbage in heavy-duty containers secured with tightly fitted lids.

Boomer might be pumped and ready to start his next set, but Rehab is all about slow, controlled exercise and REST! Breaks between exercises and even sets of the same exercise give the body time to recover and work harder during the next set. This helps prevent overworking and makes the exercise after the break more effective so Boomer can get back to playing that much sooner!

Woohoo for Whitney! When she started Rehab, she couldn't even stand on her own and now she's up, without assistance, on hard mode! By standing on her own, on uneven AND unstable footing, she's proving that her balance and stamina have vastly improved - strong work Whitney!! πŸ₯³πŸ’™πŸΎ

Look at Leo go! 🀩 If you watch the black strap attached to the back end of his Help Em Up harness, it's slack almost the entire time! He's doing nearly all of this without our assistance, but the few moments where we help him stay on his feet mean that he can continue the exercise, therefore continue improving his balance, coordination, and stamina so that one day, he won't need our help at all πŸ₯³

πŸ”†πŸ”†πŸ”† Did you know that not all lasers are made the same? πŸ”†πŸ”†πŸ”†

Your grocery store checkout scanner is a laser, but it wouldn't help much with pain and inflammation! Any laser that is powerful enough to help (Class III or IV) is also capable of great harm if misused, so they are exclusively sold to licensed medical professionals. Class I & II lasers are readily available for purchase by the general public because they aren't as powerful and are therefore less of a safety risk, but they're also too weak to have any beneficial effect for your pet.

It's easy to get distracted when you're trotting along and not actually going anywhere, but toys can be the dog equivalent of wearing headphones at the gym!

Sorry, Daisy! No cheese at Rehab, but there's plenty of snuggles to go around!
