📢 We are thrilled to announce the arrival of two young cougar cubs to the Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens! Approximately 10 weeks old, between 9-12 pounds each, this male and female came to us from South Dakota after being abandoned by their mother. We’ve yet to pick out any official names for the siblings just yet.

Currently, the cubs are behind the scenes as they fulfill their mandatory 30-day quarantine for incoming mammals, but we are so excited to share more over the next few weeks, and introduce them to guests in the Zoo later this year!

The Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens received a bomb threat on Sunday afternoon. We immediately evacuated the Zoo, including remaining guests and staff. We worked with the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office to secure the premises. Based on their inspection, the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office believes the threat was not credible.

As a result of the clearance by the Sheriff’s Office, the Zoo will be open Monday from 8 AM - 3 PM for our standard Summer operating hours.

The safety of our staff, guests, and animal residents is always our top priority, and we will continue to follow our protocols to ensure the Zoo is a safe and fun place for all.

We appreciate your support and understanding.

Enjoy your Saturday to the same level that that Fern, the river otter, enjoys her meat pops.

Pro tip: Head to the Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens! We're open 8 AM - 3 PM for the summer.

Thanks to our friends at Wekiva Island for their sponsorship of the river otter habitat!

🦥 Sloth Update: Animal Care team has been working hard to get voluntary weights on the sloths. Training for this helps keep stress levels low while still maintaining a high level of care. So far, we’ve been able to get weights from Willow, Mojojojo, and Leeloo while using a ‘weigh box’ designed by Kayce, our Behavioral Husbandry coordinator. We’re still trying with the others!

As always, you can follow along with the latest sloth updates and help us provide care for them at https://bit.ly/4e6EaYv
