PREPARED TO RESPOND: In partnership with the Florida State Animal Response Coalition (SARC), Florida State Agricultural Response Team (SART), and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS), participants completed the Small Animal Disaster and Emergency Sheltering Awareness Level Course.
 
This grant-funded, FDME-certified training provided hands-on experience and valuable knowledge to help volunteers and emergency responders support animal shelter operations during disasters. Thanks to everyone who dedicated their time to learning how to protect and care for animals when they need it most.
 
Together, we’re building a more prepared and resilient community for both people and pets.

MEET JAXSON: Jaxson recently hit the trails at Big Tree Park for a Hound Around Town outing, and he was a natural explorer! 🐾

Jaxson loved stretching his legs, taking in the sights, and enjoying every minute of his day out. His volunteer says this 3-year-old Terrier mix was a lot of fun to spend time with and hopes this sweet, active pup finds the loving home he deserves soon.

He knows basic commands, enjoys the company of other dogs with proper introductions, and his easygoing personality could make him a great fit for a family with children.

MEET CHICO: You may remember Chico (aka Donut) from a feature a few months ago. This 8-year-old Pit Bull Terrier mix arrived as a stray in February with a two-pound, fluid-filled mass on his back. Thanks to our veterinary team, the mass was successfully removed, and Chico has been thriving ever since.

He’s a friendly, playful cuddle bug with a signature wiggle butt, knows the command “sit,” and loves spending time with staff and volunteers. Chico also does well with calmer dogs.

MEET MEECHIE: Looking for a pal who loves the outdoors and is the king of cuddles? Meechie’s your guy! 🐾

This 4-year-old American Bulldog mix has been waiting for his forever home since January. He’s sweet, affectionate, and loves soaking up attention from shelter staff and volunteers.

Meechie is treat-motivated, enjoys learning new things, and has plenty of potential for continued training. Whether you’re heading out for a walk, taking a car ride, or spending time outdoors, he’s always up for an adventure. When the day is done, he’s happiest curled up beside you for some quality cuddle time.

Meechie would do best as the only dog in an adult-only home where he can be the center of attention and form a strong bond with his people.

VOLUNTEER ORIENTATION🐾: Are you interested in joining our pack? Whether it’s walking dogs, socializing with cats, helping with adoptions, or even supporting events- there’s a spot for you at Animal Services!

Attend our training session this month, meet our team, and learn all about how to get involved, including our foster program and our Hound Around Town program, where you can take a shelter dog out for an adventure.

The upcoming volunteer orientation this month is Saturday, June 13, at 9 a.m.
