Holiday season brings a lot of new and festive décor to the home. Here are some items to look out for to keep your furry friends safe:

-Tinsel: Like any string, if tinsel is digested by your pet, it can be very dangerous and cause an obstruction that can require surgery.

-Chocolate: Bakers’ chocolate, dark chocolate and semi-sweet chocolate tend to be the most dangerous types of chocolate for pets. Chocolate contains ingredients which can cause central nervous system dysfunction and heart issues. Though some chocolates contain less of these ingredients than others, all chocolate is considered toxic and should be kept away from our pets. If you think your pet has ingested chocolate, do not wait and call us immediately!

-Imitation Snow: If you have flocking or imitation snow on your tree, make sure it is out of reach for your pet as it can be harmful if digested.

-Tree preservatives: If you are using tree preservatives, ensure that your pet doesn’t have access to the tree water as this could be very toxic to them!

This month marks Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, and as we encourage everyone to consider adopting a furry friend in need, there may be some benefits of adoption you didn’t know about. See our top 10 reasons to adopt and find out how you can get involved today!

: Did you know that being up to date with your pet’s wellness exams significantly decreases chances of emergency room visits?

If your pet is suffering from an illness, we can uncover this in their regular wellness exam and begin treating immediately, lowering any risk of emergency situations. Additionally, with up-to-date medical information on your pet, emergency veterinarians can better assess your pet’s health to provide them with immediate relief in the event of an emergency.
