Unlikely playmates. Ozzie, 1-yr old Chihuahua, has been able to get 17-yr old Jack Russell Terrier, Sabine, to play with him. It's a joy to see Sabine's inner puppy come out, even if only for short bursts!

Bailey, the Pomeranian mix, went home later on this day. She was here to work on separation anxiety and dog aggression. Before she left she passed it on by helping the new dog, Maple, the Dachshund, who is here because she is afraid of everything, wasn't even leash trained, and also had separation anxiety. This was her first time going to the park. Bailey was a great calming influence on Maple.

Sometimes another dog is the best thing to help a nervous dog. Most dogs trust other dogs more than they trust people.

Since this, Maple has gone back to the park with a different dog and was even better. Tomorrow I plan to take her on her own.

Bailey's owners' report she is doing really well since returning home!

Maple (aka: May) walking up the driveway for the first time. She is a former puppy mill breeder dog who had never been on a leash until recently, and was afraid of everything. I decided to see how she did on her own. If needed I would have gotten another dog walk with us to help her. Surprisingly, she did an excellent job. Even when a lost Amazon driver came up the driveway May did not panic. Yay, May!!!

Maple the chocolate Dachshund is a 2-year-old former puppy mill breeder dog. She is with us because she is afraid of everything and needs to learn that the world is not as scary as she believes it is. She finds the most comfort snuggling up to 10-year-old Buddy. He is a former puppy mill puppy who is paying it forward. He has been so patient with Maple.

Waldo went to his new home this afternoon. According to his foster mom, he acted like he'd lived there all his life. The cat and Waldo hit it off and the current family dog licked him on the nose. (We introduced them yesterday in preparation for today.) Congratulations to Waldo and his new family! Thanks to Chatham Animal Rescue & Education (CARE) for getting this big boy through heartworm treatments and investing in behavior work with us. He has become an amazing dog with many wonderful years ahead to love and be loved!

This video was all taken in less than two minutes. 93 lb adolescent dog rushing through the door. He, Waldo, is wearing a head halter and the bottom strap gets pulled off as I take him back outside. It is put back into place, the leash is shortened, and we proceed one step at a time. We only move forward when he is not pulling. Waldo caught on instantly.

Waldo is available for adoption through chathamanimalrescue.org

Waldo's recent post on Facebook.

Say hi to Waldo! 🐶 ❤️ Waldo is a sweet, affectionate giant who truly believes he’s a lap dog — a very large one! He loves people and enjoys the company of other dogs. This handsome mix of Saint Bernard, Poodle, and American Foxhound is smart, playful, and sometimes a little stubborn, so he’ll do best with a family experienced in giant breeds who understands his size and personality.
Waldo loves his daily walks and really enjoys running, so he requires a secure, physical fenced yard attached to the home (no underground fencing) where he can safely stretch his legs. Once his energy is worked off, he’s calm and content indoors, happy to relax near his people.
