First it has been a very long time since we have really posted on this page. The images are of Romeo. Romeo is a very special boy, so let me tell you his story.

In 2025 Autumn Kirk, seen a posting on a local platform to where she resided in Jacksonville NC. Free to good home, needing to rehome a Great Pyrenees. She already had Theodore Roosevelt and Franklin Roosevelt so she already had two male half brother Great Pyrenees. She went to see this boy and she had never seen a Pyr his size. The owner stated she could have him and then helped her by pushing him into her vehicle. (Mind you not socialized just shoved him in) then told her to meet her at the house / Apartment to get his items. Autumn went there and she loaded everything into the car and that was that.

Autumn got him to her house and managed to get him into the yard. However he would not come into the house. He was terrified. He was just a little over 1 yr old and he was already 115 lbs. That night he would not come in. The neighbor helped her get him as comfortable as possible with water, food and shelter. The next day he refused to come in. Her husband came home from work and it took him and a friend to wrestle Romeo into the house as the weather was bad.

At this point Autumn knew she was in over her head and did not know what to do. So she called Dad. Toni and I drove down and we had intentions of possibly taking him to a friends farm where he would be able to be an outside guardian. However he had never been an outside guardian.

So the photo of me sitting next to this giant on the floor where he is taller than me. That is day two after he met me. It took me 24 ours to get him to let me near him. He was highly on edge and slightly aggressive. We had to wrestle him into the truck when we left. He refused to lay down or sit down in the back of the truck on the ride to Ohio.

We stopped at our friends and introduced him. He was not comfortable and then the cow came to see him. Mind you the boy would not get into the truck at all we had to wrestle him to get him in and out to use the bathroom. Well the cow walked up sniffed him and Romeo BOLTED to the truck and jumped in and wanted to stay in. So he wasn't going to stay at the farm. So Toni and I brought Romeo to our home. With our five other Great Pyrenees. All Female, and one (dont ask) Silver Lab.

Here he fit in with the dogs well, and was okay but still very nervous around people. I got called out of town and when I got back, Romeo got into some things. Now without thinking I did as I would do to any of our dogs. I pointed at him and yelled at him.

He took it in a curious format but hesitated and then got up and went and grabbed something else he should not have had. As I took it away from him I scolded him again and said "NO" I also used my index finger and tapped his nose. - This is when I realized I made a HUGE MISTAKE. This big boy came from laying down to locking his teeth into my left forearm. I grabbed him with my right hand as he came towards my face blocking him with my forearm. Then grabbed grabbed his mane. He let go and grabbed my right forearm and as I reached with my bloody left arm he put his teeth through my hand. I ripped it out of his mouth and grabbed his mane and pinned him down to avoid further attack. Clipped his leash on him and he walked to his kennel.

I got cleaned up and we debated on having him put down. He had multiple traits of aggression and it was obvious by how he reacted he had been roughly treated. I suspect he finally grew up big enough that when he was mishandled one day by the former owner he simply retaliated which resulted in them getting rid of him.

Well the Vet after seeing how he was reacting towards me, instead asked if I would keep working with him. I agreed and the Vet instead did an immediate Neuter of him. We have worked with him for over a year now.

These are all his photos. He still can not be trusted to be around anyone but Toni & Myself. However he now no longer is actively aggressive at strangers. He now wags his tail at the kids and grand kids as he recognizes them. He likes our grandson Will. Who can feed him through the gate or his kennel.

He is great with our dogs and not too bad with the cats. However given half the chance he is my shadow. He will lay on the floor and if I go to walk past him he rolls over and paws the air at me to get my attention. He is always sitting with his paw on my leg or sitting near me.

If not for a mere chance to be able to live and exist this big guy would have lost his life because humans were mean to him and tried to treat him like any other breed.

Great Pyrenees are NOT your average house dog. They will not be trained to sit, stay, roll over, shake, or fetch. They are highly intelligent and caring souls who think for themselves and that is their role. TO PROTECT! They can not protect if they have to wait for commands to understand what to do.

If you want a DOG then please get a dog. Do NOT get a Great Pyrenees unless you are willing to own a PARTNER. One who will be your best friend but they think for themselves and they will have your back. Guarding is their JOB. If you earn the love and trust of a Great Pyrenees especially one who has been mistreated by others. BUDDY YOU HAVE THE WORLD!!

So here is our "So Far " Success story.
Romeo he is a character but also the biggest sweetheart I have ever met in the dog world. I just wouldn't ever try to hurt anyone he cares about unless you want to simply have us call the mortician because buddy at 155 lbs and a bite force three times that of a Rottweiler the odds are you will just become a statistic.
