BUNNY OWNERS: THIS IS NOT NORMAL
This sweet bunny came to us with severe f***l matting and soiling around his bum. The good news? With careful grooming we were able to get this bunny comfortable again.
One of the most common causes of recurring p**p problems in rabbits is an improper diet. A healthy rabbit’s diet should consist primarily of unlimited grass hay, with measured pellets and leafy greens. Fruit should only be offered as an occasional treat, if at all.
In this case, the owner mentioned that these episodes happen about once a week after giving fruit. Excess sugar can disrupt the delicate balance of a rabbit’s digestive system, leading to soft stools, cecotrope issues, and painful matting like you see in these photos.
If your rabbit is regularly getting messy, developing mats, or having soft stools, don’t ignore it. These issues can quickly lead to skin irritation, infection, flystrike, and serious discomfort.
