This National Veterinary Technician Week, we're celebrating the incredible Associates who make our hospitals thrive — like Karen, who began as a CSR and never stopped growing and like Joanne, who sought mentorship and support to obtain her VTNE.

At VCA, we're proud to champion our veterinary technicians every step of the way — offering mentorship, encouragement, and the resources to help you reach your full potential.

To every vet tech in our VCA family: thank you. What you do matters deeply — to our teams, to our patients, and to the pet owners who trust us with their most beloved companions.

Have you heard of the 3 3 3 rule when bring home a new addition to the family?
The first 3 days: decompression. Your new pet may hide, refuse food, sleep excessively, or show unusual body language. Keep introductions minimal, offer a quiet retreat space, and stick to a predictable routine. Do not force interaction.
The first 3 weeks: learning the routine. Your pet begins to understand the household schedule, feeding times, and where they sleep. Some behavioral issues may surface as your pet becomes comfortable enough to test boundaries. Start basic training and continue socialization.
The first 3 months: bonding and belonging. Your pet has settled into their new home, trusts their people, and shows their full personality. Attachment is well established, and long-term training and enrichment routines can be built confidently.

Every surgery starts long before the first incision. It starts with a veterinary technician who has spent years mastering their skills, anticipating needs, monitoring vitals, and showing up fully prepared for every patient who comes through the door.

Vet techs are the heart of every OR team, and their skill and dedication make a difference every single day. At some VCA specialty hospitals, we take surgical collaboration even further. Some of our teams include Certified Surgical Technologists (CSTs) — professionals who earned specialized degrees specifically to support surgeons in the OR.

The result? Less time under anesthesia. Better outcomes. And a team that truly works as one. 💙

Because every patient is somebody's pet — and they deserve nothing less than the best.

Why do we want to do Fecals? We are looking for internal parasites and giardia. These ugly creatures can be picked up by water sources, soil, and rodents. Yearly checking is a wonderful sure way of making sure your patient is healthy.

Who doesn't love Chocolate! During this season, It's important to keep candy away from our furry family members, they love it too. Chocolate is toxic to animals like dogs and cats because it contains methylxanthines (theobromine and caffeine), which their bodies break down much slower than human bodies do. If you believe your animals have ingested candy, call us right away.

When recovering from surgery, it's important to have everyone is the family giving emotional support. Especially when you have to wear a giant purple cone because licking the incision is extremely tempting.

Hercules had a TPLO surgery two weeks ago with Dr. Kirkland. Though Hercules is on strict rest, his owner shared pictures of him finding joy and playing with his ball during recovery. Hang in there Hercules only 6 more weeks to go before you can show off your new knee to your friends at the park.
