So beautifully said with such love and care. ❤️ what a great read
Over the past several years, “doodles” have grown tremendously in popularity and we completely understand why. They’re often marketed as the perfect family dog: low-shedding, allergy-friendly, and easygoing. However, through our experience and continued education, we feel it’s important to share some honest insight about their care and needs.
Many doodles are the result of mixed breeding without consistent coat standards. This often leads to coats that are extremely high-maintenance and prone to severe matting if not cared for properly at home. Unfortunately, we frequently see doodles that have been unintentionally neglected.. not out of lack of love, but out of misunderstanding. Matting can cause significant discomfort, skin irritation, and even pain, and in many cases the only humane option is a full shave-down.
Doodle coats can vary widely, even within the same litter, which makes them less predictable and often more time-intensive to maintain than many people expect. Regular professional grooming combined with consistent at-home brushing is essential to keep them comfortable and healthy.
We also want to gently educate our community on truly predictable, purebred hypoallergenic breeds. While no dog is 100% hypoallergenic, certain breeds have consistent coat types that are far more manageable when properly maintained. These include breeds such as Poodles, Bichon Frisés, Portuguese Water Dogs, and Schnauzers. With these breeds, coat care needs are more standardized, making it easier for both owners and groomers to maintain a healthy coat.
If you currently have a doodle, please know this is not a judgment.. we care deeply about your pets and are always here to support you. We’re happy to provide guidance on proper at-home maintenance, brushing techniques, and realistic grooming schedules to help prevent discomfort and keep your dog feeling their best.
Our goal is to prioritize humane care, realistic expectations, and sustainable grooming practices for every dog we serve. We truly appreciate your trust and your commitment to your pet’s wellbeing.
