Going on the road this summer? Maybe you saw some trailers being pulled over? Not sure what "Paper work" you need to be legal? We can help.

In the USA, in order to cross state lines, a horse legally needs a negative coggins test within 12 months, a health certificate, and a brand inspection.

💉Coggins is the name of the test for the disease Equine Infectious Anemia. This disease can be spread from horse to horse through needles, and blood sucking insects. There is no cure for it and if the horse does survive, since they are carriers for the rest of their lives, most of them are euthanized or they have to follow very specific guidlines when it comes to housing.

📄The health certificate can come in two forms. One is a basic health certificate which is like an air plane ticket. It's good for 30 days to 1 location. You go to the location and come back. Another option is the Extended Equine Certificates of Veterinary Inspection (commonly refered to as a "passport") which is a certificate that is good for 6 months. With this certificate, owners log onto GlobalVet link and list where they are going.

🎖The last peice is the brand inspection. This will varry from state to state but for the state of ID and MT they are required. In ID there are officers called Brand inspectors and they are the people that will be able to help you get that paperwork.

At SAVE we can get you hooked up with a coggins test and either a Health certificate or EECVI. Don't live in our call range? We do allow some haul ins to Sandpoint and Sagle.

TL,DR: You need a coggins, either a health cert or EECVI, and a brand inspection.

Did you know SAVE has an online pharmacy? If you are a client that we have seen within the last year, you are able to order online andwe can approve with a click of the mouse. Other pharmacies we work with include Chewy and Valley Vet.

Unfortunately some pharmacies are much more difficult to work with and cause our office staff to be on hold with them multiple times a day or in some cases, the pharmacies themselves are slow to respond and may not ship medications for over a week even though they were approved. Due to the difficulty of trying to work with these pharmacies, we will be charging a fee. If you are using tractor supply pharmacy, California pet pharmacy, or pet choice pharmacy, there will be an additional cost because these pharmacies are difficult to work with and tie up our phones and office staff.

There are many options for online pharmacies. We have one on our website and we work well with Valkey vet and Chewy of needed.

Available services include wellness exams, vaccinations, Coggins testing, health certificates/passports, dental floats, sedation, fecals, and more.

Appointments will be scheduled in 20-minute blocks (please reserve additional time for multiple horses or dental floats).

On March 7th, Dr Grace will be talking about blocked goats. Did you know castrated male goats can develop urinary stones that can become blocked in the urethra? If you have male goats (even if they're just pets), this would be a wonderful topic to learn about! Come learn about bladder stones while enjoying some treats!
