🔹 Susan is our wise and experienced technician who has built strong, lasting relationships with our regular clients. Her knowledge, familiarity, and calm presence make her a trusted face for so many of our patients and their families during technician appointments. She brings years of experience and a special kind of connection to the care she provides.

💙🐾 Veterinary Technician Week Spotlight: Our Assistant Practice Manager! 🐾💙

Every veterinary hospital needs someone who can weather the storm, keep everyone grounded, and somehow find a reason to laugh in the middle of the chaos. For us, that person is our incredible Assistant Practice Manager, Laura!

With many, many years in veterinary medicine, she brings an incredible depth of technical knowledge, hands-on experience, and skills that only come from years of dedication to this profession. She has seen it all, handled it all, and continues to show up ready to take on whatever the day throws her way.

She is the calm to our storm, the voice of reason when things get hectic, and the one who can bring a little humor to even the most stressful days. Her leadership is fearless, her knowledge is invaluable, and her ability to support her team while keeping things moving is something we are so grateful for.

Veterinary medicine isn’t for the faint of heart, and it takes a special kind of person to lead through the difficult cases, the emotional moments, the unexpected emergencies, and the everyday chaos that comes with caring for animals. She does it with experience, confidence, humor, and a whole lot of heart.

Today, we’re celebrating not only the technician she has been for so many years, but also the leader, mentor, and steady presence she continues to be for our entire team.

This Veterinary Technicians Week, we’re proud to celebrate the four incredible Certified Veterinary Technicians who bring knowledge, compassion, leadership, and dedication to our team every single day!

🩺 Stephanie

As our Area Coordinator, Stephanie brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our hospital. From supporting our team to helping in pharmacy, her expertise and years in veterinary medicine make her an invaluable resource and an important part of keeping everything running smoothly.

💙 Autumn

As our Technician Supervisor, Autumn helps guide and support our technician team while bringing her passion for continued education beyond the clinic. With additional knowledge in animal training and nutrition, she is dedicated to helping pets live healthier, happier lives both inside and outside the hospital.

🐾 Sara

Sara has a special skill for anesthesia, where attention to detail, critical thinking, and patient monitoring are essential. She is also committed to continuing education, always seeking opportunities to expand her knowledge and bring new skills and information back to our team.

🐶 Makiah

As our newest CVT, Makiah brings the latest knowledge and up-to-date information from her recent veterinary technology education. Her fresh perspective, enthusiasm, and growing expertise are a wonderful addition to our team as she continues to develop her skills and make a difference for our patients.

Veterinary technicians are the heart of so much of what we do. They advocate for patients who cannot speak for themselves, support worried pet owners, assist with complex medical care, continue learning as medicine evolves, and show up day after day for the animals who depend on us.

Every surgery starts long before the first incision. It starts with a veterinary technician who has spent years mastering their skills, anticipating needs, monitoring vitals, and showing up fully prepared for every patient who comes through the door.

Vet techs are the heart of every OR team, and their skill and dedication make a difference every single day. At some VCA specialty hospitals, we take surgical collaboration even further. Some of our teams include Certified Surgical Technologists (CSTs) — professionals who earned specialized degrees specifically to support surgeons in the OR.

The result? Less time under anesthesia. Better outcomes. And a team that truly works as one. 💙

Because every patient is somebody's pet — and they deserve nothing less than the best.

Cooperative Care: Helping Pets Feel Safer at the Vet

As a veterinary team, we know that even routine care can be stressful for some pets. Exams, nail trims, ear cleaning, injections, medications, and other necessary handling can become challenging when a dog is fearful or uncomfortable.

That’s why we’re excited to host a Cooperative Care Seminar with Kaniksu Canine.

Cooperative care gives us another way to approach veterinary handling…one that focuses on communication, trust, and teaching dogs to actively participate in their care rather than simply tolerating it.

You’ll learn practical skills you can practice at home to help your dog become more comfortable with handling and better prepared for veterinary visits.

Our goal is simple: to create calmer, safer experiences for your pet and a better experience for everyone involved in their care.

🐾 MEET MAKIAH! 🐾

We’re excited to introduce another new member of our veterinary team and our newest Certified Veterinary Technician!

Makiah has been working in veterinary medicine for about 5 years, and she brings so much to our team. She’s eager to learn, always willing to jump in and help, and is already proving herself to be an incredible team player. And if you’ve spent any time around her, you know she brings plenty of humor to the clinic too!

When she’s not caring for your pets, you’ll probably find Makiah outdoors. She loves hunting, fishing, hiking, snowboarding, and pretty much anything that gets her outside.

And a fun fact you might not expect… Makiah used to race cars when she was younger!

We’re so happy to have her on our team and can’t wait to see all the things she’ll bring to our clinic.

🐾 Meet Heidi, our newest Veterinary Assistant! 🐾

We are so excited to welcome Heidi to our team, and we absolutely love having her here! ❤️

Heidi grew up right here in Sandpoint, where she played basketball for Sandpoint High School. She has been working in veterinary medicine since 2002, with a nine-year adventure living in Mexico along the way.

Outside of the clinic, Heidi enjoys spending time outdoors and has worn many hats over the years including volunteer firefighter and band member! 🎶🔥

At home, she enjoys life with her husband and their heeler, and we’re thrilled to have her bringing her experience, heart, and unique personality to our team.

Join us in giving Heidi a warm welcome! We’re lucky to have her!
