Potty training is one of the biggest challenges new puppy owners face, especially during those first few months.

Today, we went over potty-training issues with this 4-month-old puppy and worked with the owners on creating a clear routine, recognizing the signs their puppy needs to go, and setting them up for success at home.

The goal isn’t just to correct accidents—it’s to teach the puppy what we want and help the owners stay consistent.

Working on exposure training with Kona 🐕‍🦺

Kona can be overprotective of his owners around unfamiliar people and dogs. With Dobermans, protective instincts can be naturally strong, which makes clear boundaries and leadership especially important.

Our goal is not to suppress those instincts—it’s to teach Kona when they are appropriate and when they are not.

Through structured exposure, clear communication, and consistent leadership, we’re helping Kona learn to remain calm and look to his owners for direction rather than making decisions on his own.

Good leadership creates confidence, clarity, and control.

🐾 Continuing the work with Midge & Mabel! 🐾

We’re building on what we worked on during our previous session and continuing to increase the difficulty. Today, we challenged the Frenchie sisters with longer distances during their sit-stays, helping them build patience, duration, and confidence.

We’re also starting to make their rewards more random and unpredictable instead of rewarding every single repetition. This helps teach them that following through with the command is expected, even when a reward isn’t guaranteed every time.

Consistent progress comes from gradually increasing distractions, distance, duration, and expectations. 💪🐶

Almost 300 lbs → Training for my first marathon. 🏃‍♂️

There was a time when I weighed almost 300 pounds. I knew I needed to make a change—not just to lose weight, but to completely change my lifestyle.

I started focusing on my health, becoming more active, and pushing myself to do things I never thought I could do.

Now, I’m taking on something I never imagined: running my first marathon. 🏅

On December 12th, I’ll be running the Phoenix Marathon, and I wanted to make this challenge about more than just myself.

I’m using my first marathon to raise funds for Desert Tails Shelter in Scottsdale, a rescue that helps dogs in need find safety, care, and loving homes. 🐶❤️

Every mile will have a purpose. Every donation will help make a difference.

🐾 Introducing the Place Command to Oakley & Dakota!

Today we’re introducing Oakley and Dakota to the Place command—teaching them to calmly stay on a designated spot until released.

Place is a valuable command for building impulse control, duration, and structure. It helps dogs learn that they don’t always need to follow every movement around them and gives owners a reliable way to create calmness in the home and out in the world.

We’ll continue building duration and adding distractions as they progress! 💪🐕

🐕 Continuing the Work with Axel!

Axel started out as a car-reactive dog, but we’re now shifting the focus toward his overall mindset while out on walks. The goal isn’t just to get him past triggers—it’s to teach him how to stay engaged with his handler and remain calm and focused.

Today we worked on changing speeds throughout the walk:
➡️ Normal pace
➡️ Fast pace
➡️ Slow pace

Changing pace keeps Axel paying attention, following direction, and learning that the handler sets the pace—not the environment around him.

Progress comes from consistency, communication, and building the right mindset one walk at a time. 💪🐾

🐾 Why I’m Running My First Marathon for Desert Tails 🐾

I recently came across a story on my newsfeed about Copper, a blind dog who was found abandoned in the desert.

His story really stuck with me.

As someone who works with dogs every day, it’s hard to see an animal go through something like that and not want to help. I started looking into Desert Tails Shelter and the work they do to rescue, care for, and give dogs like Copper a second chance.

That’s when I decided to turn something personal into something bigger.

On December 12th, I’ll be running my first marathon — the Phoenix Marathon — and I’m using this challenge to raise funds for Desert Tails. 🏃‍♂️🐕

Running a marathon is something I’ve wanted to accomplish, but having a purpose behind every mile makes it mean so much more.

100% of the funds raised through my fundraiser will go directly to Desert Tails Shelter to help them continue providing care and second chances to dogs in need.

🐾🏃‍♂️ RUNNING MY FIRST MARATHON FOR THE DOGS! 🏃‍♂️🐾

On December 12th, I’ll be taking on a challenge I’ve never done before — my first marathon at the Phoenix Marathon ! 26.2 miles of running, pushing through the tough moments, and putting myself to the test.

But I want this marathon to be about more than just crossing the finish line.

I’m using this challenge to help raise funds for Desert Tails Shelter and the dogs they work so hard to rescue, care for, and find loving homes for. 🐶❤️

As a dog trainer, I’ve seen firsthand how much these dogs deserve a second chance. Every donation can help provide food, medical care, shelter, and the resources these dogs need while they wait for their forever homes.

💪🐾 Confidence Building with Kona!

Today, Kona is working on building confidence by learning to navigate new and unfamiliar surfaces. We put him on a cart at Home Depot topped with concrete blocks to create an unusual environment and challenge him mentally.

Exercises like this help dogs learn to think through new situations, trust themselves, and stay calm when things around them are unfamiliar. Confidence isn’t just about obedience—it’s about teaching your dog that new experiences don’t have to be scary. 🐶🔥

Working on that down-stay with Henry at Home Depot! 🐾🎃

Henry is a hyper Doodle, so learning to hold a position and remain calm around distractions is critical. Today, we added an extra challenge by practicing right in front of the Halloween animatronics! 👻💀

The goal isn’t just getting your dog to listen in a quiet room—it’s teaching them to maintain that obedience when the environment gets exciting, busy, and unpredictable.

Consistent practice + controlled distractions = better reliability everywhere you go.
