In my opinion along with proper OFA clearances Hip, elbow, heart and yearly eye DNA clearances should be mandatory.

DNA Testing & Responsible Golden Retriever Breeding

DNA testing helps breeders make informed decisions about inherited diseases in Golden Retrievers.
Some of the conditions that can be tested for include:

Progressive Retinal Atrophy (prcd-PRA and GR-PRA1): Inherited eye diseases that can cause progressive vision loss and eventual blindness.

Ichthyosis (ICH1): An inherited skin condition that can cause flaky skin, often described as puppy dandruff, and may persist or become more significant in some dogs.
As genetic testing continues to advance, breeders must consider the severity of each disease, test reliability, its prevalence within the breed, and affected or carrier dogs throughout the pedigree.

The goal is to prevent affected puppies while preserving genetic diversity and gradually reducing harmful disease-associated genes in the breed. A carrier result should be considered within the bigger picture of responsible breeding decisions.

“One of these things is not like the others”
Rowan and Pip have a pet cat. The cat, Lance, is not fond of people but loves dogs.
FYI none of them are locked in the dog kennel. They just like to check it out occasionally.

Oh those dog days of fall.

When everyone has just about had enough of the heat this fall.

The dogs hate ground squirrels with a passion. This one escaped by jumping inside the livestock brush.
With some intervention it survived to see another day.

Oh Home Depot. Why do you tempt me so?
Each Halloween and every Christmas the hunt begins.

In order to pass you will need to pay the “ cookie” toll.

Four years ago….
Rowan ( their sire) introducing Nova and a littermate to the fun of slightly deeper water.
Most Goldens take to water naturally when done in a safe manner.
