🧠✨ THE SCIENCE OF STILLNESS 🐾

Meditation research gives us an interesting look into nervous system regulation.

📊 A review of nearly 3,500 people found mindfulness meditation produced measurable improvements in anxiety, depression and pain.

🧠 Another 8-week study found that reductions in perceived stress were associated with changes in the amygdala, an area heavily involved in our threat response.

So what can this teach us about our dogs? 🐕

👤 HUMAN:
Trigger ➡️ Arousal ➡️ Pause ➡️ Regulate ➡️ Recover 🧘‍♀️

🐕 DOG:
Trigger ➡️ Arousal ➡️ Quiet / Leave It ➡️ Disengage ➡️ Settle ➡️ Recover 🌿

This is why I put so much emphasis on teaching Quiet 🤫 and Leave It ✋, particularly with dogs struggling with over-arousal or separation anxiety.

Using clear communication, including the remote collar once the dog understands the command, we can interrupt that escalating behavioral pattern and give the dog an opportunity to practice something incredibly important:

✨ Coming back down. ✨

We aren’t trying to create a dog that never feels stress.

🐾 We’re teaching a dog what to DO when stress shows up.

✨ The Power of the Collective ✨

One of the most beautiful things I witnessed during the Fourth of July fireworks wasn’t the fireworks themselves.

It was the nervous system of a single dog being supported by the calm presence of the group.

One sweet dog arrived feeling anxious as the fireworks echoed in the distance. But every other dog around her remained relaxed, grounded, and settled. Instead of the anxiety spreading through the group, something even more incredible happened.

The calm spread.

Within a short time, she began to soften. Her breathing slowed. Her body relaxed. She simply looked around and realized, “If everyone else is okay… maybe I’m okay too.”

This is the power of the collective.

Our nervous systems are designed to constantly gather information from those around us. Through mirrored behavior and a process called co-regulation, we unconsciously ask, “Am I safe?” When the answer coming from the group is calm, our own nervous system often begins to settle.

Dogs do this naturally.

Humans do too.

This is one of the reasons I love our meditation circles with both dogs and humans. We aren’t trying to “fix” anyone. We simply create an environment where calm becomes contagious. Where one regulated nervous system helps another remember what safety feels like.

Healing doesn’t always happen because someone tells us to relax.

Sometimes healing happens because we’re surrounded by others who embody peace.

Whether you have two legs or four, community matters.

Your energy matters.

Your calm matters.

Because sometimes the greatest gift we can offer another living being is simply a regulated nervous system that quietly says,

“You’re safe. I’m here. We can do this together.” ❤️

🇺🇸❤️ Happy 4th of July from CanineJulz Dog Training! ❤️🇺🇸

Today we’re celebrating freedom, family, friends, and the incredible dogs who make life a little brighter every single day.

Whether you’re spending the day at a barbecue, the beach, or relaxing at home, don’t forget that the holiday can be overwhelming for our four-legged family members. Keep them safe by making sure they have a secure place to relax, fresh water, and plenty of comfort if the fireworks get loud tonight.

May your heart be filled with joy, love, laughter, and gratitude. Wishing you and your pups a safe and happy Independence Day!

❤️🤍💙 Happy 4th of July! 🇺🇸🐾

A lot of the work I do doesn’t start with the dog. It starts with the human.
Not from a place of blame, but from a place of awareness.
Because our dogs are incredibly intuitive. They respond to our nervous system, our emotions, our patterns, or movements - and often reflect things back to us in ways we don’t immediately recognize.
When we shift our focus from controlling behavior to understanding connection, everything softens.
There’s more clarity. More trust. More ease for both of you.
That’s why I’m part of Sama Circle - Sama Dog’s Lifestyle Membership Community.
I don’t just teach training techniques. It’s about creating a relationship with your dog that feels grounded, supportive, and deeply connected.
If that’s something you’ve been craving, I’d love for you to join us inside.

Today I had the privilege of representing CanineJulz at the High Tech High North County Small Business Fair, and what an incredible experience it was.

It was an honor to connect with so many bright, engaged students and share what it’s like to build a career as a professional dog trainer and small business owner.

One of my favorite parts of the day was talking with students about the rewards of this profession. Dog training is about so much more than teaching commands. It’s about helping people build stronger relationships with their dogs, creating confidence on both ends of the leash, and making a meaningful difference in the lives of families every day.

The students asked thoughtful questions about entrepreneurship, working with animals, starting a business, and what it takes to turn a passion into a career. Their curiosity, enthusiasm, and willingness to learn were inspiring.

A heartfelt thank you to High Tech High North County for hosting such a well organized event and for creating opportunities for students to explore different career paths and connect with local business owners.

I left feeling grateful, inspired, and hopeful for the next generation of leaders, entrepreneurs, and changemakers.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to chat and learn more about CanineJulz. 🐾

One of the most important things I’ve learned in my work with dogs is this:
So much of what we try to “fix” in our dogs isn’t just about training. It’s about connection.
Dogs are constantly reading us. Our energy, our pace, our emotions, our movements. Even the things we’re not fully aware of ourselves. And when something feels off in their behavior, it’s often an invitation to look a little deeper, not just at them, but at the dynamic between you.
When we begin to slow down, to listen, and to meet them with more presence, things start to shift in a very different way.
This is why I’m part of Sama Circle, Sama Dog’s Lifestyle Membership Community.
It’s a space where we explore not just how to guide our dogs, but how to show up for them in a way that feels more connected, more aware, and more wise.
If you’ve ever felt like there’s something deeper going on beneath your dog’s behavior, you’re probably right.
And I think you’ll feel at home here.

Does your dog not take treats? 🤔
Does your dog not care about affection?
Nothing seems motivating?

How do you reward that dog… and help them experience happiness?

Try the treadmill 🐕‍🦺🏃‍♂️

Running releases dopamine and endorphins in the brain. That “runner’s high” helps dogs feel calmer, safer, and more confident.

For dogs who won’t take treats…
movement becomes the reward 🎉

For dogs who don’t seek affection…
running creates joy 💛

For shut down or anxious dogs…
the treadmill builds confidence 🌿

After structured movement, many dogs become
✨ more engaged
✨ more relaxed
✨ more motivated
✨ more open to training

Sometimes the best reward…
is simply letting the dog run. 🐾
