we ask a lot of our dogs. we expect a lot from our dogs. sit. stay. mind your business, mind your manners, mind your owners. do this that way, do that this way, do what you’re told and not what you aren’t. be selfless in every possible avenue. give your all, all the time. be respectful of all creatures, even if your ancestors weren’t. act well behaved at all times, especially in public. perform at your very best at all costs under pressure. learn to tolerate things you hate while being shorted on things you love. prove yourself to be worthy of human companionship — “man’s best friend”. it isn’t fair.
we take, and take, and take but at what point do we give to them? at what point do we allow our dogs to be themselves, just dogs? this is why i have a huge appreciation for nature. nature has its ways of allowing us to give back to our dogs and allow them to be just that: dogs. no expectations, no disappointments, nothing to ask for.
they’ll only have known us for a small portion of our life — but we’re all of theirs. ❤️🔥
