DOW SKILLBRIDGE — OPENINGS AVAILABLE!

Ready to turn your military experience into a career working with dogs?

North County Canine Training’s Department of War (DoW) SkillBridge Program has officially been recertified through 2028, and we currently have IMMEDIATE OPENINGS for transitioning service members!

This is not a program where you stand on the sidelines and watch. You’ll get hands-on experience working with dogs, clients, and professional trainers while preparing for a career in the canine industry after military service.

Throughout the program, participants gain experience in:

• Working with a variety of breeds, temperaments, and behavioral challenges
• Obedience training & behavior modification
• Teaching dog owners proper training techniques and handling skills
• Conducting evaluations of prospective clients and their dogs
• Scent detection & odor work
• Tracking & trailing
• Protection training & working-dog development
• Canine behavior, drives, and training progression
• Kennel operations, canine care, maintenance & facility management
• Working alongside experienced professional dog trainers

We don’t just teach you how to train dogs.

Our goal is to develop the skills necessary to train the dog, teach the owner, evaluate behavior, solve problems, and operate in a professional canine training environment.

Savannah is wrapping up Week 3 of our Off-Leash Board & Train, and the transformation has been awesome to watch.

When Savannah first came to us, she struggled with leash reactivity toward both people and dogs, had no reliable kennel command, and would become very vocal when frustrated or when she wanted something. Although she knew some basic commands, she had very little duration or accountability with them. She had also learned to continually pull through pressure on the prong collar, making it largely ineffective as a communication tool.

Three weeks later, we’re looking at a completely different dog!

Savannah has learned how to work through frustration, respond appropriately to leash pressure, hold commands with duration, settle when asked, kennel reliably, and make better decisions around distractions. Most importantly, she’s learning that calm behavior and clear communication get her where she wants to go.

This is what Board & Train is all about, not just teaching commands, but changing patterns, building confidence, creating clarity, and giving the dog and owner a better way to communicate.
