Learning to “drop it” and “exchange” safely. Start with toys and items that are okay to interact with. Once this behavior is fluent, your dogs is more willing to work with you, verses running away/playing keep away with the no-no objects. Notice how we are encouraging dogs to come to us to share, this will increase the bond, trust, retrieve, and ease for us to “trade”.

Here we are working on true relaxation from within and supporting the dog’s calm decisions and calm handler techniques to help lower the arousal in situations where it’s needed. Hint: less obedience needed, more understanding of dogs’s natural behavior and helping them regulate.

Young dog learning boundaries, how to navigate himself around dogs, reading body-language and realizing that jumping on top of another dog un-invited is rude and comes with consequences. Proper dog to dog socialization is less about two dogs going crazy playing and more so about “reading the room” and learning how to just settle and be neutral in the same space.

Down Town walk success! While it’s a dream and goal of many to be able to walk their dogs down a busy down town to eat and shop -in reality many dogs struggle and find this environment stressful, unpredictable and scary. While it’s good to have goals and focus on what we want, what is needed often looks different, we needed to meet the dog’s needs first. Today, after months of working on connection, safety, calming a very anxious and fearful nervous system through small, positive achievements indoors, backyard, neighborhood we actually made it down town. Slow and steady wins the race. Woot woot!

Keep learning, keep it fun and try new things. So proud of the positive changes she has made over these past two years, confidence and personality continues to evolve. Everyone’s journey and timeline is unique. So thankful for the friendship and adventures little Elf brings.
