We Have Names !!!

Congratulations to all of you new "M" puppy raisers. So far 8 of you have contacted me and that is awesome! Lets see if we can find the last two puppy raisers. Not sure if we will get an update from the CEDC today but we will have some folks visiting the litter so hopefully fun pictures will follow,
Thank you all for everything you do for this amazing organization.

And more about the study that your kids are participating in.

Canine Companions offers a unique opportunity to explore the effect of early rearing environment on mothering style and puppy behavior. By comparing litters whelped and reared in breeder caretaker homes with those at the CEDC, we hope to learn more about which components of each environment are important to development, and how both environments can be enhanced.

Finally, temperament and hormone profiles of the dams will be evaluated pre-pregnancy, searching for associations between maternal biology, personality, and subsequent mothering style. In doing this research, our hope is to ultimately identify objective measures through which Canine Companions can select dams best suited to motherhood in the most beneficial environments. This will allow us to prioritize and improve the dogs’ health, happiness, and quality of life, as well as enhance the puppies’ ability to effectively grow into their working role.

The CEDC folks did a fantastic job of providing a picture of each of the puppies. So thanks again CEDC staff.
The pups have really grown over the last week and are really developing their own personalities. They all look so much like Tigris! This week the pups have been exposed to an increased variety of toys and continue to excel in potty training. They all have great appetites and are currently enjoying softened kibble as well as time with mom.

II have asked about names and they are still being processed. I promise as soon as I know I will let you know. I, Breeder Caretakers, submit a lot of names so it is always a surprise to us as well. I am with you in the waiting anxiously.

Congratulations to the 8 puppy raisers who know they are getting one of these puppies and have contacted me.

A little more about the study.
From birth, every study puppy will wear a unique color-coded and marked collar so that they will be individually identifiable in video recordings, night and day. That will allow us to determine if experiences with the mother vary or stay constant across pups in a litter, and how that may relate to each specific puppy’s later outcome. At eight weeks of age, puppies will participate in temperament and cognitive tests to assess their early behavioral tendencies and problem-solving skills.

The puppies and Tigris continue to do well at the CEDC and the staff have been doing a wonderful job of taking care of them. They are participating in a Maternal style study. This explores how a puppy’s early abilities are associated with his or her later success as an assistance dog. Cool stuff!

The puppies turn 4 weeks this week and are growing so fast! They are now very mobile, they really enjoy playing with each other and interacting with their surroundings. This week, we've added some new obstacles for them to climb on/under, along with novel sounds and a variety of new surfaces.

Tigris and her pups are all doing very well! She is such a devoted and attentive mother.

The pups are doing great...eyes are open and they are really getting mobile now, and they also are starting to interact and play with each other. They’ve moved into a larger kennel area and are really exploring the extra space they have now. They’re doing pretty well with the potty pad training too! The CEDC staff is doing an amazing job will these little ones!
Names have been submitted so we should get those back in a few weeks. All is well in the world of the Mystical M's. until next week.

Puppies are gaining well, LOL
The puppies have just started to open their eyes now and are moving around the pool more. They now get to have some small stuffed toys and some early socialization items introduced into their environment.

One week old and all gaining weight and doing well. The puppies and Tigris will remain at the Canine Early Development Center (CEDC) until the puppies ship out to their puppy raisers. They are participating in a maternal study and this week the puppies experienced many new sensations as part of the study.
So proud of you all and many thanks to the CEDC staff for all that they do.
