Very productive dialogue. I appreciate all of the responses. Seems like I was not exaggerating when it comes to the dogs. Affordable or low-cost spay/neuter options in San Jose for dogs are extremely limited at best and nonexistent at worst. That is unacceptable and we should all be expressing our frustration to the powers that be.

Until we do have access to affordable spay/neuter here in San Jose we will be doing our best to fix as many dogs(and cats) as possible for local pet parents. We will cover the cost entirely. You just need to get them there. DM or email for more information.

At 12 years old, Kat is proof that senior dogs still have so much love, companionship, and joy to give. She enjoys leisurely walks, romping with her favorite toys, basking in the sunshine, and soaking up affection from her people. Kat is a wonderful companion who would love to spend her golden years in a loving home.

Kat is selective about her dog friends and would do best as the only dog in the home unless a careful, successful introduction shows otherwise. She cannot live with cats. Her ideal adopter will understand her needs and give her the time, patience, and love she deserves.

Kat came to the shelter after her longtime human had to move into a care facility. Through no fault of her own, this sweet senior is now waiting for someone to give her the second chance she deserves.

Please don’t overlook Kat because of her age. She has plenty of life, loyalty, and love left to share. Her adoption fee is waived for a good adoption match, so let’s help Kat find the forever home she has been waiting for.

It gets pretty frustrating waiting for people in positions of power to realize how important it is for residence of San Jose to have access to affordable spay/neuter. Sometimes it feels like we’re the only ones actively trying to solve this problem. Then today I saw this post about a new San Jose shelter position with a focus on spay/neuter and it gave me some hope. Whoever fills this position can count on us to help identify opportunities and coordinate with the community. Hopefully we can count on them. Because this isn’t a problem we can continue to ignore if we ever want to see some progress in dealing with the unwanted pet population crisis here in San Jose.
