Alemany Farm

Alemany Farm We grow 24,000 pounds of produce annually at SF's largest urban agriculture site, Alemany Farm. Please support the farm by donating if you can.

Please be advised that we are currently *not* hosting volunteer workdays due to the city-wide shelter-in-place order. https://secure.sfparksalliance.org/give/304005/ #!/donation/checkout

at Alemany, we nurture soil, defend habitat, feed human bellies and nourish human hearts. we do it because we will not survive capitalism if we do not.

the majority of our income comes from city grants, which is increasingly unreliable. we often run at a deficit in order to pay our incredible apprentices and give away everything we grow for free. we dig into our own bank accounts to buy seeds and equipment, start peppers and tomatoes in our own homes and work unpaid hours to plant flowers and w**d thistle.

next year, we are contending with what needs to happen to stay afloat. we are cutting hours for our two farm managers, Abby and myself. we are considering a pause on the apprentice program in order to still grow free food for our neighbors. instead of relying so much on the government, we have decided to be honest about our needs and are hoping to lean on our community for support.

we are the tiniest drop in the bucket of what needs to be done to ensure our children and their children have a future on this planet. last year: 31,000+ lbs of free food grown & shared, 700+ families fed weekly, 20+ apprentices/interns sprouting, 8000+ volunteer hours poured into the land, coyotes playing in our remay, garter snakes sleeping in our compost, hawks screeching overhead, worms wriggling in the soil, neighborhood kids running thru the pathways, aunties harvesting the chrysanthemum in our orchard. how can we even quantify these metrics ???

as stewards of the largest agricultural site in sf, as humans who believe in embodying our responsibilities to this world, as beings who are trying their very hardest to make this world more sovereign and more free, we hope you consider donating to Alemany Farm if it is within your capacity. every cent counts for us. our dream is to be entirely community funded. could you donate $5 monthly? $10 monthly? $100? $2?

our goal is to raise $200,000. if donating is not within reach for you, it would mean so much to us if you shared this post, shared our work, came to the farm, or (and!) dedicated your life to a more generous and free world.

donation link is in our bio. thank you. we love you. we hope to be with you on the land soon 🌿

In addition to bird "watching" we will spend some time talking about the intersection of birds and other organisms including humans, pollination, seed dispersal, conservation, introduced species, taxonomy, birding resources etc. Your guide will be J.R. Blair, who is a dear friend to the farm thats been an active birder since the 1980s! So come and learn this skill that'll have your eyes to the sky and bushes.
