Rex 3-year-old brown/white male mix 77 lbs Neutered

Background. Urgent adopter needed for Rex. A heartbreaking story... This guy was brought in to a vet in Stanislaus County in the spring of 2025 by a good Samaritan who found him. We suspect he had either fallen off the back of a truck or had been hit by a car. He was suffering from multiple abrasions and lacerations and a dislocated hip. A rescue advocate in the Modesto area notified us... and we mobilized to get him the heck out of there and into our program. After a few quick vet visits and med boarding, he was treated for his wounds and underwent FHO surgery in April 2025 to resolve the dislocated femur bone. Rex spent many months with a foster during and after his recovery. During his foster period, we learned that Rex has significant anxieties out in the world... on leash walks... and have been unable to effectively resolve these anxieties.

What Rex' prior foster says. Rex came to me following hip surgery. He is completely housebroken and increasing the length of his walks that he takes with my neighbor's female lab. Rex has learned to love his crate after some work and easily chills for a few hours when I need to leave the house. Rex has a healthy appetite and sleeps through the night on a dog bed in my room. He is very well behaved inside the house and barks very little. Loves to hang out in my backyard and monitor the squirrel activity. I have introduced him to several neighborhood dogs and he is happy to spend calm time with them in my backyard. Rex does have a very intense prey drive that on our walks when he sees other dogs and animals. He is a strong boy and difficult to walk on a leash. Rex loves all people but he is quite anxious/reactive with other dogs besides the neighbors' dogs. He is an absolute angel inside my home.

What Rex' Rescue Rep says. Quite a rescue and recovery for Rex. Rex is fine with dogs he has been properly (and slowly) introduced to. But he is hyper vigilant and alert on walks about the neighborhood. He becomes quite anxious and hyper-aroused when he sees other dogs, cats, squirrels, etc... and kinda loses his mind. We have enlisted the help of several professional dog trainers to design a rehabilitation/de-sensitization program for Rex with varying albeit limited success. He will need a savvy and strong adopter who is game to take on this awesome dog. Not for a home with kids or cats. Rex would do best with an experienced dog owner that will give him regular exercise and continue with his rehabilitation. Rex needs a committed adopter who accepts that Rex will be best served by living in their home and backyard -- with no leash-walks around the neighborhood, no trips to the park, etc. Our trainer advises that while Rex is sweet with humans, it is best that Rex find a sanctuary situation (adopter with backyard) with limited exposure to the outside world and dogs/animals that he does not know. We believe Rex to be a Doberman/Pit mix. A secure rural forever home would be best for Rex. We are urgently searching for that special adopter.

Medical. Rex is current on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative and neutered.

Rex is currently located in: Dixon.

Foster or Adopter Needed for Waylon.

8-year-old Yellow Lab Mix (possibly Golden Retriever), 109 lbs, Neutered

Waylon is a gentle, oversized teddy bear who didn’t do anything wrong except belong to a family that moved on without him. He was surrendered to the shelter with his sister, and while another rescue was able to take her, they couldn’t take him too. They were reported to be a bonded pair, so yes, his heart’s taken a few hits lately.

We’re grateful he’s now in the GGLRR family and finally on the path to the forever home he deserves.

Our foster lovingly shared about Waylon:
Waylon is a 109 pound sweet, gentle giant and truly one of the easiest Labs we’ve fostered. He adores cookies and takes them very softly, never grabby. He lives for belly rubs and that soft, happy tail wag when you talk to him in a kind voice.

On walks, he’s a dream. He stops when you stop and doesn’t pull. If a squirrel or cat is nearby, he’s a bit inconsistent about whether he cares or not, which keeps us laughing because we can’t quite figure out his logic.

He walks twice a day with our three other dogs and fits in beautifully. There are no issues with the pack. He’s completely housebroken, does not p*e inside, and he’ll let us know when he needs to go out.

Waylon does have a skin rash, but we’re treating it with medicated shampoo and mousse, and he’s very good about it. Overall, he’s been an amazing, easy addition to our home and we think he’d do wonderfully in a home that has other friendly dogs.

What our rescue rep shared about Waylon:
When Waylon was first evaluated at the shelter, he was understandably nervous. He allowed all over handling but wasn’t very interested in food or treats. Once his canine sibling came out, he relaxed and his true self started to p*ek through.

Waylon is housetrained and will likely feel most comfortable in a home with another nice dog or dogs. We’d love to see him in a home where he gets plenty of attention and regular exercise, is not left alone for long stretches, and is welcomed as a true member of the family.

Medical:
Current on vaccinations, heartworm tested negative, and neutered.
Skin rash is being treated with medicated shampoo and mousse.

Location:
Waylon is currently in Vallejo.

If you’re interested in giving Waylon the soft landing he deserves, please contact Rescue Rep Kris at [email protected]

In your email, please share a bit about yourself, your home, other pets, and why you think you’d be a good fit for this gentle soul.

Heartfelt appeal- Urgent Foster Needed for Una

8-Month-Old Black Lab Mix, 56 lbs, Spayed Female

Una’s a bright, bouncy sweetheart who’s had a rough start through no fault of her own. She was found as a stray in Oakland, adopted from the shelter, and then returned simply because she has the energy of a young Lab who hasn’t had much guidance yet. When we met her, we saw what the shelter couldn’t keep up with — a fantastic, affectionate pup who’s just eager to learn and be loved.

Our evaluator lovingly shared about Una:
This young girl is the full package — sweet, affectionate, and already knows several commands. She’s smart, she’s eager, and she was clearly someone’s beloved pet at some point. She does need some help with leash manners and can be a bit jumpy, so a home without very young children would be best.

What the shelter shared about her dog skills:
Una walked into three different playgroups on day one — high energy, medium energy, and gentle — and she shined in every single one. She matched the energy, played respectfully, and showed fantastic social skills. This girl really loves canine friends.

What her Rescue Rep says:
Una is ready for a foster home that can keep up with her youthful zest. A home with another playful dog or older kids would be wonderful. We’re not sure how she is with cats. She’ll need someone who can gently but firmly help her learn good leash manners, but her desire to bond and please makes her a great student.

Medical:
Healthy, vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed.

Location:
Oakland

This girl deserves a soft bed, a patient heart, and a chance to grow into the amazing dog we already see in her.

Lovely Leo needs you!

10-year-old yellow Lab
75 lbs, neutered

Leo’s story starts the way too many of them do… a gentle old Lab found wandering the streets of Sacramento County, alone but hopeful. The shelter scanned his chip and found his name was ā€œYellow,ā€ but every number tied to that chip went nowhere. Days passed. Then weeks. And still, no one came for him.

So he waited. Quietly. Sweetly. Tail thumping whenever someone walked by. When we finally pulled him from Bradshaw Animal Shelter, he stepped out with the kind of calm, trusting spirit that just melts you.

Our evaluator lovingly shared about Leo:
Leo is one of those dogs who walks right into your heart. He tried to climb into a lap within minutes of meeting us, tail swishing happily like he’d waited all day for that moment. He’s gentle in every way, allows handling all over, and has zero food guarding. His eyesight isn’t great, so he bumps into things here and there and has trouble finding his squeaky toy, but he never loses his sweetness. He did beautifully with another dog and, bless him, is still figuring out what a leash walk even is.

Leo’s foster shared this with a warm smile:
Leo may be a senior, but he still has a lively little spark. He loves exploring the house and yard, hanging out with the family, and being close enough to keep tabs on his people. He fits right in with the other dog at home and enjoys gentle playtime. He knows sit, shake, and lie down, and he comes when called. He’s potty trained, crate trained, and learning the doggie door like a champ.
His vision loss doesn’t define him. Once he learns the layout, he moves around with confidence and such quiet joy. He walks nicely on leash and is truly ready to settle into a home that feels like his own again.

What his rescue rep says:
Leo would do well with a friendly dog companion and might be okay with cats. He’d love a safe backyard where he can stretch out in the grass and feel the sun on his face. And he’s happiest when his people are nearby. Someone who’s home often, someone who enjoys slow walks and a peaceful buddy at their feet… that’s Leo’s dream.

Medical
Up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, neutered, and heartworm negative.
A veterinary ophthalmologist confirmed degenerative vision from progressive retinal atrophy. Leo sees light and some motion but is otherwise blind, especially at night. He handles it with total grace.

Location
Leo is currently in Pleasanton.

Sweet Summer
1-year-old, 50 lb, spayed female black Lab mix

Sometimes a dog waits so long that hope starts to fade… and then someone finally shows up for her. That’s Summer’s story.

She spent nine long weeks in a Central Valley shelter after being found as a stray. Nine weeks of watching other dogs leave while she stayed behind. Her name back then was ā€œWelsummer,ā€ but nothing felt well about the summer she was having. When her time ran out and she was scheduled to be euthanized, we stepped in and pulled her out just in time. She walked out of that building with her whole life suddenly ahead of her.

Our foster lovingly shared about Summer:

Summer is a tenderhearted, affectionate girl who wants nothing more than to love and be loved. She’s playful, energetic, and lives for fetch, mealtime, and any chance to make her people proud. She’s crate-trained, food-motivated, and knows several commands. She’s also working hard on her leash manners. Summer will shine with someone who has the time to bond with her and guide her. She should be in a cat-free home, and slow introductions are important with small dogs or children. Give her a securely fenced yard, two good walks a day, and she’ll happily curl up inside as a calm, loving companion. She’s ready to exhale and finally belong to someone.

What her rescue rep says:

Her utterly cute shenanigans.

Summer would do beautifully in a home with a secure backyard where she can run, relax, and rediscover how fun life can be. She adores plush toys, gentle hands, and being close to her people. She’ll need slow, thoughtful introductions to other dogs because she gets excited when she sees them, but with patience, she’ll continue growing into the wonderful girl she already wants to be.

Medical
Summer is healthy, spayed, microchipped, and vaccinated. She is missing her tail, and we’re not sure why, but it doesn’t slow her down or dampen her spirit one bit.

Location
Summer is currently in Vallejo.

UPDATE: Foster Found. Stay tuned for updates.

Clifford’s story starts like too many rescue stories do… a young black Lab mix wandering the streets of San Francisco, alone and unsure. At just one year old and 71 pounds, he had no training, no routine, no one to show him how the world works. But when SF Animal Care and Control brought him in, they quickly discovered a dog with a bright spirit and a goofy, gentle heart.

Right now the shelter has no open kennels at all. Not a single one. Dogs are at risk of being euthanized simply because there is no space, and Clifford is one of them. It breaks my heart to even type that. This sweet boy could lose his life before he truly gets a chance to live it.

When our evaluator met him, Clifford started off unsure. A standing person felt scary to him, but the moment someone sat down and softened their posture, Clifford lit up. He hopped onto the bench, wiggled his whole body, and covered them with affection. All he needed was reassurance that he was safe. Then his true personality came shining through.

He is gentle even with his size, allows handling easily, loves treats, and has a soft mouth. He enjoys other dogs, splashes with joy in the water tub, and trots around like he is discovering happiness for the first time. Clifford honestly feels like a blank canvas. No bad habits to undo. He simply never had anyone teach him. Now he is ready for someone to guide him.

He needs a foster who can offer structure, daily exercise, and ideally a yard where he can romp. Older kids are fine, but he may be too jumpy for little ones right now. Another friendly dog could be a great match. Cats are unknown.

Clifford is healthy, vaccinated, microchipped, and freshly neutered. What he doesn’t have is time. He is sitting in a crowded San Francisco shelter hoping someone sees the spark in him before space runs out.

If your heart is tugging even a little, please listen. Clifford doesn’t need perfect. He just needs a chance.

If you can foster or might want to adopt Clifford, please contact Rescue Rep Dave at [email protected]
