Rescue the Underdog

📍Bay Area Dog Rescue
Giving second chances to the underdogs. 🐶
🚨 Official account of RTU Some are strays, some are surrendered simply because they are “old”.

Rescue the Underdog is a small San Francisco based, volunteer-run organization that saves dogs from being euthanized in high kill shelters. We are part of Center for Animal Rescue and Education in Solano, a 501(c)(3) organization.

Most of the dogs are rescued from the Central Valley, often hours before being put down. Rescue the Underdog tries to save as many dogs as we can, with our goal being to save them all. We take dogs that no other rescue will take. So we might end up with unpopular breeds, older dogs, dogs who need special medical care, or dogs who need to be socialized. We also have plenty of young, healthy, well-adjusted dogs who are abandoned for no apparent reason. We do everything we can to save them all, get them the medical care they need, socialize them, and place them in loving foster homes, eventually to be adopted into forever homes. Our dogs are special, and many of them need adopters who will give them time to adjust and feel safe in their loving new homes. Our reward is in saving these precious lives and seeing the joy that we bring to people's lives when they find their perfect match in an Underdog. There is no greater joy than to see an underdog's transformation, from the time they are pulled from the shelter to when they are adopted by a loving family. If you’d like to help, you can volunteer, foster, adopt, or donate. We are always in need of fosters, and we are in special need of donations to cover the special medical care that some of our dogs need.

Maddie’s Big Win! 🐾✨

In rescue, progress is built on quiet victories. For Maddie, the underdog of the week, that victory looks like unlocking a treat dispensary!

Maddie has made her crate her ultimate safe spot that she proudly marches right inside whenever she decides it’s snack time! Her foster tells us it’s been a complete game-changer for leaving the house. While they’re still practicing longer solo side-quests, Maddie’s confidence is growing every single week.

We are completely baffled that we haven’t received a single application for this absolute gem of a girl. She is smart, affectionate, and trying so hard every single day to be the best companion possible.

Every underdog deserves their champion, and Maddie has waited long enough for hers.

🚨 FOSTER NEEDED IMMEDIATELY: HELP OUR RESCUE SAVE ASTEROID ( ) 🚨

We are desperately trying to pull Asteroid, a handsome 2-year-old Husky/Pitbull mix, out of Contra Costa Animal Services in Martinez, CA. However, our rescue cannot safely pull him without an open foster home.

Asteroid’s euthanasia deadline was September 2nd, and because CCAS is facing extreme space shortages, he can be euthanized at any moment.

He has been stuck in a shelter kennel for over two months. Asteroid is a healthy, active 71-lb boy who loves playing with toys, learning tricks for treats, and soaking up attention. He doesn't have special medical or behavioral needs—he simply needs a break from the shelter environment.

🏡 WHAT FOSTERING MEANS WITH US:
• We cover all medical care, food, crate, and essential supplies.
• You offer a safe, loving temporary home while he waits for a forever adopter.
• You directly save a life that is out of time!

📩 HOW TO APPLY:
If you are in the Bay Area or Northern California and can open your heart and home to foster Asteroid, please fill out our foster application at https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/foster/RTUG/Dog

Please LIKE and SHARE this post—every share helps reach the foster home Asteroid needs today! 🐾❤️

We are hoping to raise $1000 to help with recent medical needs like Cesar’s neuter and puppy Darius’ UTI treatment. If you cannot donate, please share! You never know who it might reach.

Thank you so much for supporting the underdogs! 💙

Today, we rescued Cesar!

For every dog we save, there are medical expenses that come with giving them a second chance. While most dogs leave the shelter already spayed or neutered, there are times when that isn't possible. Cesar will need to be neutered before he's ready for adoption. We recently covered Teegan's spay surgery, and our puppy Darius has already needed treatment for a UTI, along with his routine veterinary care.

We are hoping to raise $1,000 to help cover essential medical care for the dogs in our rescue. Every donation helps ensure we can continue saying "yes" to dogs like Cesar when they need us the most.

If you're able, please consider making a donation or sharing this fundraiser.

How to donate:
🔸 Venmo:
🔸 Through this post
🔸 Our website: rescuetheunderdog.org/donate

Thank you for helping us give underdogs a second chance and provide the care they need on their journey to a forever home!💙

Chuck is ready for his next adventure... he just needs a sidekick. 🌾

Whether it's exploring a new trail, strolling through an open field, or simply enjoying the sunshine, Chuck is ready to be by your side.

He is great with other dogs and loves his people. We know the right match is out there, but we sure thought someone would have scooped him up by now.

Could you be the hero he's been waiting for? Learn more about Chuck on our website linked 🔗 in the comments.
