We spent SO long working hard on Bantha’s ‘alert’ and as soon as it came along beautifully, shifted gears to working on another piece of the picture.

Even with a high stakes job, training is never ‘finished’… you are always finding things that can be refined or pushed beyond what’s been previously accomplished.

I’m very grateful for the mentorship and training we’re able to have consistently 😮‍💨🙏🏽

Listen to how frequent the whining is in the first type of down… then listen to how it is in the second. Your dog is SO in tune with themselves physically that their minds can follow their matter, meaning that while their body language is incredibly communicative, their body’s positioning in space also communicates to their brains in a way deeper than many of us may understand.

You can learn the ‘form’ of these types of things on YouTube in just a few minutes, but knowing how to achieve a ‘function’ is much more important in training your dogs for the day to day! Working directly with an experienced trainer can help you start to see the benefits of choosing function over form in a way individualized to fit your goals and your dog’s needs.

Training is NOT practicing ‘sit, down, etc’… it’s so far beyond that. I think of training as the process of showing your dog their role in their environment at any given moment. To put it simply, showing your dog what you want them to do within life’s everyday moments.

Training happens most in the mundane moments for many dogs, like doing laundry, cooking or eating meals, etc. Think about what you’d like your dog to be doing in those moments, and reward them for doing it… it can really be that simple sometimes. ☺️

Because your mindset MATTERS. I tell clients all the time, no training is better than bad training… and when we aren’t in the right state of mind, it’s likely going to travel right down the other end of the leash. I’d rather you stay indoors and play brain games with your dog to stimulate them than take a walk simply for the sake of doing so if you aren’t set up for success. ⬇️⬇️⬇️

I’ll be hosting a workshop helping to reshape your mindset surrounding your dog’s behavior that’s meant to make you WANT to go train with them instead of dreading your training sessions… keep an eye out for the announcement this month! 👀
