When one dog starts barking, the other usually joins in, making it harder to keep things calm. We're teaching Bob and Marley to stay on their "place" when someone knocks instead of feeding off each other's excitement.

The name game teaches Fedder that hearing his name means it's time to pay attention. By saying it once and rewarding him heavily when he responds, we're building a more reliable response around distractions.

Bruno has learned that when his owners sit on the couch with food, it’s his chance to hover, beg, and steal. Now we’re giving him a clearer job: go to place, stay there, and wait until released.

Tug is a great game, but only if the dog can let go when asked. Louie is learning that holding on makes the game stop, and dropping the toy makes the game start again.

A lot of puppies bite because touch feels like play. We’re using food to teach him that hands, petting, grabbing, paws, tail, and clothing touching him are not reasons to bite.

A strong place command should hold up even when people knock, talk to her, walk around, or move through the house. Her job is to stay down until she hears the release word.

If you want your dog to settle at a restaurant, “down” needs to mean more than just elbows on the floor. Jobu is learning that down starts the command, and release ends it.

The goal is not to say “leave it” every time Sully sees a paper towel. The goal is to teach him that paper towels are not something he should pick up in the first place.

The harness and bungee leash made it easier for Luna to pull and harder for the handler to communicate. We switched to a slip leash so the leash pressure could get her attention better. She is learning that when she sees another dog, her job is not to drag toward them. Her job is to listen for her name, come back, and follow the handler.
