🚨 San Diego Extreme Heat Warning 🚨

An extreme heat warning is in effect across San Diego County and the rising temperatures can pose serious risks for pets. Please take extra steps to help keep your pets safe:

✅ Keep them in the cool indoors as much as possible, and make sure they have shade when they're outside.
✅ Skip walks during peak heat hours — hot asphalt, concrete and even turf can burn their paws. Instead, walk dogs in cool early mornings or late evenings.
✅ Always provide plenty of fresh, cold water throughout the day.
❌ Never leave a pet in a parked car! Temperatures can become fatal in minutes.

Watch your pet for signs of heat stress: heavy panting, glazed eyes, rapid pulse, unsteadiness, vomiting or a deep red tongue. If you notice any of these, contact your veterinarian immediately.

🐾 Remembering the Four-Legged Heroes of 9/11 🗽

Did you know that over 300 search, rescue, and therapy dogs deployed to Ground Zero, the Pentagon, and Shanksville after 9/11? To honor these incredible pups this Patriot Day, here are a few amazing facts about their service:

🐕‍🦺 The Breed Lineup: While German Shepherds and Labrador Retrievers were the most common on the front lines, the heroic pack also included Golden Retrievers, Border Collies, Rat Terriers, and even mixed breeds!
🥾 Protective Gear: The rubble was incredibly dangerous and hot. To keep them safe during their grueling 12-hour shifts, many of these working dogs were fitted with special protective booties for their paws.
❤️ Healing Comfort: It wasn't just about search and rescue! Dedicated therapy dogs were brought in specifically to provide emotional support, a wagging tail, and a comforting snuggle to exhausted first responders.
🥇 A Long Legacy: The last known surviving 9/11 search dog, a beautiful Golden Retriever named Bretagne (pronounced "Brittany"), retired as a hero and lived to be 16 years old!

Today, we pause to honor the extraordinary dedication of these working dogs and the handlers who served right beside them.
