Coffee in hand, rain jacket on, and one very happy San Diegan ☕️🌧️

FINALLY, some rain! So grateful for a little relief for our thirsty plants and wildlife, and a weekend that actually feels like fall(ish). You know I’ll be enjoying every bit of it between pet visits 🌿🐾

Happy Saturday from your Paws & Relax gal! 🙌🏼🩵 Are you loving this rainy weather as much as I am?

Will work for treats. Will also accept kisses and being told they’re the most beautiful baby in the world ❤️😂

What’s your dog’s preferred payment—treats or affection?

Meet Cookie Crisp—the sweetest new addition to the Paws & Relax family 😸🍪🐾

She may look very serious about her little fish, but playtime is important business around here. When I care for cats, it’s never just about refreshing the food and water and scooping the litter box. It’s about honoring their routines, earning their trust and making sure they receive the play, enrichment, affection—or respectful personal space—they’re most comfortable with.

Every cat is wonderfully different, and getting to know their individual personality is one of my favorite parts of what I do. Welcome, Cookie Crisp. I already adore you! 🤍

The Sunday committee has assembled 🐾

Agenda:

1. Sit in the sun.
2. Look deeply concerned about absolutely nothing.
3. Convince the humans that dinner is late.

English bulldogs have a way of making an ordinary morning feel like a whole little story. Those faces, those serious stares, and just enough attitude to keep everyone entertained 🤎

Which photo captures your Sunday mood—the solo portraits or the two of them together?

Twenty-five years ago today, our nation experienced unimaginable tragedy. We remember the 2,977 lives taken, the families forever changed, and the brave first responders who ran toward danger when others were trying to escape 🇺🇸

We also remember the four-legged heroes of September 11 🐾

Hundreds of dogs and their handlers answered the call in the days and months that followed. Search-and-rescue dogs climbed across unstable, smoldering rubble looking for survivors. Recovery dogs helped bring loved ones home. Therapy dogs quietly comforted exhausted first responders and grieving families. Guide dogs Roselle and Salty faithfully led their blind handlers down dozens of flights of stairs and out of the World Trade Center before the towers collapsed.

These dogs worked amid smoke, sharp debris, intense heat and heartbreaking conditions. Even when survivors became increasingly difficult to find, they continued searching—guided by their training, their trust in their handlers and their extraordinary devotion.

They could not understand the magnitude of what had happened. They only knew that their people needed them.

Today, we honor every life lost and every human and canine hero who served. May we never forget the courage, sacrifice and unity shown in our nation’s darkest hours—and may we always remember the dogs who stood faithfully beside us through it all.

Some heroes wore uniforms.
Some wore collars 🐾❤️

Never forget 🇺🇸

☀️🐾 EXTREME HEAT SAFETY 🐾☀️

San Diego temperatures reached over 100° today, and an Extreme Heat Warning is in effect. In weather like this, a long walk isn’t worth the risk.

Keep your pup(s) safe by:

🌿 Choosing brief potty breaks in shaded, grassy areas
💧 Bringing fresh water—even on short outings
🐾 Avoiding hot pavement whenever possible
🏠 Replacing walks with indoor play, enrichment, or training
🌅 Saving longer walks for early morning or after temperatures cool

Watch for excessive panting, heavy drooling, bright-red gums, weakness, vomiting, confusion, or difficulty walking. If you notice these signs, move your dog somewhere cool and contact a veterinarian immediately.

Seniors, puppies, flat-faced breeds, overweight dogs, and dogs with heart or respiratory conditions are especially vulnerable.

Today, my clients have been enjoying a short, shaded potty break followed by plenty of safe indoor fun. Changing the plan isn’t “skipping the walk”—it’s putting their wellbeing first 🩵

Stay cool and stay safe, San Diego!

A little gratitude post from my heart 🤗🩵

When you choose Paws & Relax, you aren’t simply booking a pet care service—you’re trusting me with someone deeply loved and incredibly important to your family. That is something I will never take lightly.

Every booking, referral, thoughtful review, shared post, tagged friend, kind message, and familiar furry face waiting for me at the door means more than I can adequately express.

Because of your support, I get to build a small business around what I genuinely love: caring for animals and giving their people comfort and peace of mind while they’re away.

Thank you for welcoming me into your homes, trusting me with your beloved pets, and continuing to choose Paws & Relax. Every one of your fur babies holds a special place in my heart 🐶🐱🐰🐴

I notice it all—and I am so incredibly grateful.

With love,
Ashley
