Raquel's Senior Dog Bed & Breakfast

Raquel's Senior Dog Bed & Breakfast San Diego’s trusted senior dog boarding & daycare. A calm, safe place for senior pups to feel comfortable and cared for. Hi, I'm Raquel!

We provide specialized care for older dogs, including boarding, daycare, walks, house sitting, and home or Airbnb drop-ins. I've been living in San Diego since May 2017 and am originally from the Bay Area. My husband and I recently bought a house in the College area and love meeting neighbors through their pets. I've grown up having multiple dogs and learned the many responsibilities of caring for

older dogs at an early age. We are on our 4th senior dog adoption and currently have 1 senior dog who is very calm and mainly enjoys sleeping and watching me eat. I also have a 14-year-old cat named Puppy who has grown up with dogs her whole life. My dog gets along great with other calm dogs and cats. I have taken care of senior dogs, dogs with special needs (blind, deaf, incontinence, injury), dogs recovering from surgery, and have experience applying/administering/injecting medication if your dog needs that special care. Your dog will most definitely be showered with love, cuddles (if they like), and a warm cozy bed. Feel at ease during your busy days or while you're on vacation with multiple daily updates, photos and videos of your furry loved one. I do my best to learn about and stick to your pet's daily schedule to make sure they are as comfortable as possible. Trust that leaving an older dog in my care is possible for you and that they will receive the extra attention they deserve. Both my husband and I work from home so we have lots of time to hang out with the dogs, take them on our daily walks, give them treats, make sure they take their meds and feed them. On the weekends we don't leave the house for more than 4 hours at a time and make sure that the dogs have used the bathroom before we leave. The pups at home are allowed to roam free throughout our home and the backyard. There are dog beds in every room so they'll be sure to find a good spot to rest. Most of the time I'll let bigger dogs with higher energy run around in my yard to release some energy or take them on long walks (30-45 mins). I also have different areas of my yard to be able to separate dogs if needed. If I were in your home, I would make sure that things are kept neat and how you left them, follow your directions and be respectful of your property. I will treat your home and your pets the same way I treat mine; with love and respect.

Meet Lieutenant. 🧡🐾

Lieutenant is 10 years old and recently joined us for her first long boarding stay at Senior Dog BnB. After more than a week with us, we’ve learned that she has a pretty perfect senior dog routine:

Eat her food.
Take herself outside for a potty break.
Return immediately to the couch.
Nap.
Collect cuddles.
Repeat. 😂💚

Lieutenant is sweet, healthy, easygoing, and happiest when she has a cozy space of her own. Her parents told us she can be timid and selective, especially around men, so we wanted to give her plenty of time and space to settle in at her own pace.

Apparently, Marcus passed the vibe check almost immediately. 😂 She warmed up to him so quickly that now she even gets a little sad when he leaves the house.

That’s one of our favorite things about longer senior dog boarding stays. We get the chance to really learn each dog’s personality, routines, boundaries, and all the little things that make them feel comfortable.

And for Lieutenant? Good food, plenty of sleep, and a couch full of cuddles seem to be the winning combination. 🧡🐾

If you're looking for a calm, home-style environment for your senior dog, we'd love to meet you.

A little behind-the-scenes look at one of the less glamorous parts of running Senior Dog BnB. 😂🐾

With a yard full of senior pups coming and going throughout the day, keeping their outdoor space clean is a BIG part of our routine.

We clean our artificial turf twice a day, once in the morning and again at night, using a pet-friendly, non-toxic, biodegradable turf cleaner. 🧡

It helps us stay on top of odors and, most importantly, keep the yard fresh and ready for all those senior dog potty breaks.

Because caring for senior dogs isn’t only about cuddles, naps, medications, and meals. It’s also about all the little things happening behind the scenes to give them a clean and comfortable place to stay. 💚🐾

And yes, sometimes that means becoming very invested in turf cleaner. 😂

Maybe we should all be a little more like senior dogs. 🐾🧡

One thing senior dogs have taught me is that they feel absolutely ZERO guilt about resting.

Tired? Nap.
Found a comfortable couch? Nap.
Car ride? Probably nap.
Human sitting nearby? Perfect time for another nap. 😂

Meanwhile, I’m still learning how to rest without feeling like I should be doing something.

As a business owner, there’s always another task, another idea, another thing that needs attention. Sometimes it can feel harder to stop than it does to keep going.

But our senior dogs are a daily reminder that rest isn’t something you have to earn.

When their bodies tell them they’re tired, they listen. They find a cozy spot, close their eyes, and let everything else wait.

Dogs don’t worry about being productive every second of the day. They just go to sleep. 💚

I’m still working on that lesson, but maybe that’s the reminder some of us need today:

Take the break. Sit on the couch. Close your eyes. Take the nap.

The to-do list will still be there when you wake up. 🧡🐾

POV: It’s your first day of daycare at Senior Dog BnB. 🐾

Meet Charlie! His mom dropped him off for his very first day with us, and after saying goodbye, it was time to get settled in and meet the crew.

New environments and new furry friends can be a lot to take in, especially for a senior pup, so we always give our dogs the time and space they need to get comfortable at their own pace.
And we’re happy to report that Charlie did AMAZING. 💛He settled right in, made some new friends, and had a great first day with us.

We’re already looking forward to having him back for more daycare days and hopefully some longer stays in the future.

Welcome to the Senior Dog BnB family, Charlie!🐶

One thing senior dog parents wish more people understood? Their dogs aren’t being difficult. They just need a little more time. 🧡🐾

As dogs get older, their pace changes. Walks may be slower. They might need more breaks, more space, and a little extra patience to get where they’re going.

And that’s okay.

Senior dogs don’t need to keep up with the pace they had when they were younger. Sometimes the best thing we can do is slow down with them, let them sniff, explore, and enjoy the moment on their terms. 💚

There’s no rush when you’re walking with an old friend.

Welcome back to the Keebler Corner. 🐾💚

Whenever Keebler stays with us, we make sure he has a little space that feels familiar and completely his own.

His bag gets hung right beside him, and his favorite puppy stays close by. That bag is especially important because it smells like home and it's one of the last things his mom touched before leaving him with us. He loves being near it, so we make sure it's always where he can see and smell it.

We also give him a soft mat where he can settle in, get comfortable, and enjoy his little corner of the B&B. 🧡

Senior dog care isn't always about the big things. Sometimes it's simply noticing what brings a dog comfort and making sure they have it nearby.

And for Keebler, that's his bag, his puppy, and a cozy spot to call his own. 🐾
