It’s so important for parents to understand the true dynamics of equine activities and the safety measures necessary for their children. Horseback riding should always prioritize safety, and it’s crucial to recognize that it isn’t “normal” for a child to frequently fall off a lesson or school horse. As an equine professional, the well-being of both the children and the horses is paramount. If a situation or activity seems unsafe for my own child, rest assured I wouldn’t subject anyone else’s child to it either. Moreover, using sedatives or drugs on lesson horses is a dangerous practice that compromises the horse’s natural reactions and can pose significant risks to the rider. Instead, trainers should ensure horses are appropriately trained and managed, by riding or lunging them beforehand to confirm their readiness for lessons. Always trust your parental instincts and advocate for your child’s safety in all equine activities.
